Some people have way too much time and money. And imagine getting hit by a bug at that speed in a go kart.

I'm not saying I wouldn't drive it, but it's absurd.

One more reason why a wankel is awesome

That thing is badass, i for the most part was probably pretty cheap to build. Just seems silly to me to use that small of tires though. Hes probably tested it, but wouldn't he go significantly faster with even slightly bigger tires?

Well, look at the size of those tires. If he could keep them spinning that fast, and upped the circumference (slightly bigger tires), he ought to go much, much faster.

Um...you all know that bigger tires just changes the gearing, right? He's probably got the gearing right where he wants it by the more conventional means (ie, gears) and is going with small tires for lower spinning mass.

true tm, but wider tires would provide better hookup with no change in rolling circumference. granted, the mass would increase, but I suspect the better hookup would overcome that loss.

I love the fact that it has 4 wheels in the back. im sure with just 2 wheels in the back it would smoke them into oblivion in no time. as to why the tires are so small I would imagine that to keep it's "status" as a go-kart it has a regulation size wheel that it has to use. Other than that the thing would definately be fun to haul ass in.

this isnt so uncommon, here in college we have an FSAE team.

Its a 610cc engine on a go-kart, basically. We race, we are allowed to add turbos, superchargers, etc, and the only catch is that we build the frame and get the parts ourselves.

Its a great club, and I reccomend you guys check it out, our car has a Yamaha engine with a 6-speed racing transmission, and we havent found a course that has allowed us to hit the top speed yet (but we've clocked it over 120).

For me it isn't the frankinstien motor swap, it was the darn quarter mile time. I know there was a group of guys that did a GSXR 1000 motorswap into a shifter car - that was nuts. Locally a couple guys are doing the same with a Busa motor that is turboed. Its just the fact that a darn go-kart will go 8's in the qt.

It seems like your FSAE teams are kinda like the F500 class found in the SCCA, cool stuff none the less. I have always been intrested in the formula classes, it just seems so expensive after F500.
