Help me with finding a used car!

Im looking for a safe, 4-door used vehicle for my 16 year old son. I don't know much about cars and I would appreciate any reccomendations you have. Thanks.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I've got an early 90s Acura Integra -- I've got the 4 door version. It's very cheap on insurance, as it's about 12 years old, reliable, not an overpowered car, but still not a total econobox, and pretty safe.

It's never let me down, but I'd recommend compiling a list and going test driving in some of them, seeing what works best.

at 16 years old i wouldn't get him anything nice. Its his first car, and hes still learning to drive. He will abuse and get in trouble (or narrowly avoid it) in whatever car you get him. Get him a beater. Something with just enough power to go, but not enough to get him in trouble. Dont get him something maintenance free. Make him learn a little about his car and the fact that he WILL have problems evenetually, but dont get him something too bad that he cant afford it. I have no real suggestions, but that is just something to think about. I learned on a 90 Dodge Caravan. Just enough to get out of its way if it had to, but nothing great. Then moved onto (and still drive) and 87 Jeep Cherokee. I think it would be a perfect first car. Can be found dirt cheap, good reliability, fun to drive offroad, can be a blast ON the road if you know how to use it. Enough power to kick most cars butt off the line, and surprise em at what it can do, but not quite enough to get him in serious trouble. Not great for mileage, butnot enough to seriously strain your pocketbook.

Im not saying thats the perfect car, but something similar might not be a bad idea. Just dont go buy him something he will go out and try racing all his freinds in.

Thanks for your imput, I appreciate it. I've been looking a lot at the Toyota Camry, seems like a decent vehicle.
