1982 Reliant K
 

Alright, so, i have stumbled upon a 1982 Reliant K w/ 45,xxx miles on it, no rust, amazing condition, etc. The old lady is asking 500 for it. I need a good beater car for the winter, and I think that this would be a good investment. However, I'm asking everyone here for input on what sucks about the K-cars, etc. Any suggestions on stuff i should do is welcome.

Also, how have i seen videos of these cars going 10's in the 1/4, do they just drop a total new engine/tranny in them, as they are uber light or something? <I dont plan on doing this, im just curious>

For 500 pesos you can't go wrong. Seems to me the K's were pretty good little cars. Cheap, cheap to fix, etc.

I seem to recall the distributors being right up front and would catch the rain in a heavy down pour and go dark on you.

i would definately grab it, specially for that price. You cant go wrong at 500 bucks for a running car, let alone one in great shape, that old, with only 45,000 miles on it. Id say its a real nice deal. Plus, turbo dodge K cars can eb reasonably reliable, very strong blocks to work on and up the boost to be a bad ass car. Cant go wrong with throwing a turbo and/or more boost at it. I think it would be a fun project car too, not just a winter beater.

I think that makes my opinion fairly clear.

They're some of the most cheaply put together cars ever made. The cars you see going quick are guys that seriously up the boost on the 2.2 chrysler motors. For 500 bucks though its tought to beat.

Ok, I bought the car, runs good, everything is sound, great buy. But my god is this thing slow, i mean, i can floor it, and it has no noticable pickup, its ok, as like i said its a beater, but still its damn slow. I'm still glad i got it, just simple fact is, this car is gul durn slow, but is in really nice condition, and even had a recent tune up<New belts, hoses, tires, and fuel filter, along w/ oil change and a new Battery> all in all im quite happy :)

Pretty much all early-80s cars were gutless pigs due to the fuel crisis. V8 Mustangs and Camaros from that era would get spanked by most minivans on the market now.

Now drop a 2.2 turbo in that thing, and it's a different story. Those cars only weigh around 2400 pounds, so ~250 hp would really make it haul!

I had an 82 citation with a 2.8 V-6 at one time. Bought it for 500 bucks CANADIAN, so that's like 400 american.

I remember the guy said that it was kind of a dog in the guts dept. I took it out for a test spin and it did feel like i was dragging a boat anchor behind the car.

I bought it and put a new set of plugs in it and ignition wires and it was remarkable. It turns out i had a bad plug. That thing could really move believe it or not.

I suggest you try advancing the timing a wee bit if you haven't already. You will be suprised you may get a bit more pep out of it.

If its just for the winter why not.....if its fuel-injected that even better.
