Honda Accord
Anybody here own the '03 or '04 Honda Accord with the V6 engine? I drove one this weekend and was quite impressed but I'm curious to hear the overall impression from folks who've owned the car for sometime now.
Thanks for the input. This car shopping stuff gets more and more confusing as all the manufacturers make better cars. UPDATE ON 9/23/03: I just turned in a '00 Lexus RX300 lease (will never lease again!) for a fully loaded '04 V6 EX in Graphite with every option except navigation (couldn't justify the 2k upcharge). I LOVE this car. The 240 hp 24 valve engine is superb and hauls this baby to 60 mph in a hurry with a great growl. Interior quality almost comparable with the Passat but you get 50 more horses. Remembering that it's still considered a family sedan, it handles beautfully and can be driven moderately agressively with great fun. I bought it from a car broker for 24k plus tax. He bought it from a dealer in Brooklyn. That saved me nearly a grand over the best price I could buy it for. It stickers at $26,500. This may be the best made automobile I've bought and may be even better made than the Lexus was. It's really THAT good. |
Honda Blow :( Go Try a 2004 Altima 3.5 or a 2004 Maxima
|
Hondas blow? Hah. They are the best cars you can buy.
Hondas will last you forever and a day... i haven't messed with the new models but my 02 accord is the fourth accord in my family for a reason. The new sedan designs aren't very spectacular, but the coupe does look all right. I would say it's definately worth the money. |
They are nice cars, but not my style. The best thing you can do is drive them. Since you seem to like them, try these cars:
Honda Accord V6 Nissan Altime 3.5 SE Toyota Camry V6 Dodge Stratus R/T Mazda 6 If you want sportier: Neon SRT-4 Subaru WRX |
I'm with HALX. Like I keep saying, I love the newer models.
|
My sister is getting one really soon here, i'll update with her impressions of it, and mine :)
|
The only Honda I really dislike is the civic. Its so played out..around where i live anyway. But I only dislike it because all these kids buy them and put noise-makers on them and think they are cool. Too many people watching fast and the furious.. =P
I'm sure they are nice cars though=P I know a lot of people with accords and they are very happy with them.. if its what your lookin for I agree they are worth your money. |
Hal, how fast are those v6 accords? We've got a riced out one in town here and I'm wondering what kinda times they put down.
|
I also agree with Halx. Honda Accords are GREAT cars. Hey they aren't the top or second-best selling cars because they suck. They're popular (# of units sold) because they are dependable and reliable. :)
|
Hondas are great - reliable, with superb control.
Try Acura, too. They're owned by Honda and specialize in slightly more upscale cars. My current fetish car is an Acura RSX - so hot. |
I've got an '03 that I've put 10k on so far. Excellent vehicle. This is my second Accord, the first with a V6. Excellent pick up and it even has a decent little growl as you accelerate.

Duuuuuuuude, not that big a deal. We all know that import engines will last forever if taken care of, as will a common domestic motor like a chevy 350. What is amazing is how much more high tech the little imports are, I mean, they were putting dual overhead cams and multiple valves per cylinder in their cars lightyears before the big three were. I'm not a big fan of a small lightweight car with a tiny engine, even though it might be quick, but it is interesting to note that even the big displacement domestic motors are moving towards much more complicated engine designs. The 4.6/5.4 Ford motors that replaced the venerable 302 and 351 are both DOHC designs, and utilize 4 valves per cylinder, and the Chevy LS1 based engines 4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0 do nearly the same. Of course I'll always love my trusty 350, and you can generate an amazing amount of normally aspirated power with one, you aren't going to win any fuel economy awards with it either ;) Turbo 4cyl is becoming standard for performance imports, while a N/A v8 is still the standard for performance domestics... just imagine what would happen if we started seeing turbo or even twin turbo v8's come from the factory... I can smell the tire smoke from here ;)

The SVT 4.6 is DOHC, but the standard is SOHC.
|
Yeah...I was referring to the trucks, specifically, and even the Crown Vic and Mustang GT, but yes, you are correct that the SVT motors 4.6 & 5.4 are 4v/DOHC.
|
Haha, my bad guys, I thought I heard somewhere that the Cobra engines were 4 valves/cyl... is that an SVT car? Sorry, not too up to date on my ford stuff :-/
|
LS6 is god.
too bad they cost so damn much. |
Cobra engines are SVT.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread. I've always been a fan of Domestic cars, but I love the looks of the new Accord. The performance is good, and you won't be filling up the tank every three days like some cars. I've hard nothing but good things from owners. |
To me the Accord just isn't that appealing. Sounds like a great car, but it doesn't make me go "wow" or have any feelings. I just see one go by and continue with my life.
|
They make OK Cars but Honda Accords are just so plain.
|
98-02 Accord Coupe are the best, love the taillights which are the NSX style lights across the back. Just lower it,add some rims and window tint, so pimp

So Gay, Why do people do that to cars. Its not a sports car you dont need to lower it. ****creep989 has been warned for immature comments |

Yeah I know, and it's about damn time we got it! As to why. . well we always get the tamer vehicles. The rest of the world gets the WRX forever, and when we FINALLY get it, it's got the lower rated engine. We never got the Silva even though we got it's wimpy little brother the 240SX. We never got the Skyline except for used vehicles that we have to pay higher-than-new prices for. The top civic/CRX over here had 108hp. The top civic/CRX in Japan had 165hp with VTEC. The BMW M3 is toned down for the US. Hell even American built cars are cooler in other countries. We're finally about to get the Holden Monaro (disguised as a pontiac if I recall), but Australia has had it for a long time. For some reason, people don't think Americans like to drive fast. |
Get the Accord. It is a great car for the money. Need help in getting the best deal...shoot me a pm and I will gladly help you out.:)
|
We do have the Skyline its called the G35 Coupe. Its nothing like the real one but they still call it the skyline
|
i think it looks like a sports car

Actually, Japan's current Skyline is exactly the G35 coupe, save badges etc.
There is no current R-34 IIRC. Oh yeah, jhericurl, those are some nasty looking accords. The huge body kit makes the first one look like a freakin toy, especially with those tiny looking wheels. The second one isn't bad except for the two watermellon shooters. |
Whats the point of having your car look like that, when your done its stilll an accord! Take the money that you spend on the extra shit and buy a nicer car.

What happens when a Corvette uses DOHC and multi-vaves-per-cylinder? The all aluminum designed V8 engine with 4-cams and 32-valves producing 405 hp @ 5,800 rpm and 385 ft lbs @ 4,800 rpm with a redline of 7200 rpm. Top speed of 180+mph. And that was back in 1990. http://images.cardomain.com/member_i.../131467_30.jpg Corvette ZR1, baby! hehe And lets take a look at that Trailblazer I-6....DOHC multi-valve-per-cly-engine....275 hp. From a 6-cyl. Hondas are well built, but ANYTHING will last you forever if you take care of it. Make mine American |
We do nothing but the standard maintenance on our Hondas, and even missed a few times (okay, more than a few), and the commute car is closing in on 200K over 11 years with a trouble-free engine and drive train. They're not the prettiest and they're not the fastest and they're not the toughest, but give them half a chance and they'll run forever.

I once owned an 81 datsun b-210, that was quite a fine piece of scrap metal.

The new accords are so nice the accord coupe is just sweet!
|
I disagree with the Accord Coupe looking sharp. I think it look hideous...but that's just my opinion. It used to be that the Accord Sedan was a conservatively styled, yet attractive car. Nothing extravagant about it, just practical. Now, there is still nothing fancy about it, but now it looks bad too! For the same money, give me a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, or better yet, a Bonneville, and it's a bigger car!!!
|
i really liked the 98-02 accord coupes. The new Accord V6 engines are pretty nice, and you can get stick too (on the coupe). But i don't really like the front ends, the hood looks a little bulbous and the headlights are somewhat strange to me. The back of the coupe is pretty cool though, but the sedan rear end is sorta buicky. Hey, and at least Hondas aren't as frumpy as Toyotas. The only young person car Toyota has is the Celica, and maybe the Matrix, but older people buy those too.
I would buy a Mazda 6 with a V6 and stick, or maybe a TSX since it seems to be a spiritual successor of the prelude. |

I think hondas suck and I think lowering them is totally gay. |
It's not the lowering so much but the fart cannons and gigantic wings that make them look ridiculous.
Hondas are the best you can get if you just want a car to get you from point a to point b. Personally I think that's a waste of money and a car should be more than just a means to an end but whatever. |
[Sarcasm]Hondas suck, i smoked one in my stang the other day [/sarcasm]
I think the new V6 Accords are awesome, 240 hp + 6 speed gearbox = :D. I think that the coupes will probably run low 14s+. From many testimonies, it seems like they will last you a life time, if you just take care of it minimally, i've heard many stories of them lasting past 200k miles w/ only the battery dying. |
I drive an Accord and like it a lot.
My previous car was a Grand Am, and before I totalled it, it was always in the shop. It had to have a new tranny put in at 75k and numerous other repairs during the time I had it. The Accord has been in the shop a few times, but always for something small.. I think the only "repair" that was over $100 was getting it re-aligned, but nothing has really gone wrong with it yet. It's an older model ('96), and just a 4 banger, but I like it a lot and ideally would like to get a V6 EX when I'm settled down an able to afford a nicer car. My car is by no means a race car, but I drive fast and find it to be very reponsive and stable.. It's acceleration leaves something to be desired, but that's to be expected from a 4 cylinder I guess. That and I don't like to punch it for fear of damaging the engine.. Very neat car though. The Grand-Am was all kinds of trouble, but the Accord has pretty much made me a Honda customer from here on out. I've heard about their reliability and life for awhile, but after driving and owning one for over a year, I can honestly say that so far things are looking good. |
My friend bought an 02 accord I believe it's the fourbanger...but I have to say this about it...I love the 4 cylinders from a mechanics standpoint....so super easy to work on...to bad the parts are pricey...but thats why they are made to last...
|
I drive a 2000 accord, and I am not a fan of the new (Gen 7) body style. I like the Gen 6 style better, but hey, i am somewhat partial.
|
Are you guys talking about the JDM Accord or the other Accord?
The JDM version is much more dynamic and sportier. |
I bought a a '94 Accord for my wife a few years ago. Great car Smooth and quiet. Now have a '02 Windstar Limited plush, but not like fun like the Accord

Good point. Toyota is in the same catagory as Honda. They make cars that run forever but they have no personality. They just like to copy what other car makers do. I like car designers who push it to the edge. Cars have soul. |
i think honda accords are great cars. just great overall with a great price. the only thing i don't like about the new accord is the look, i think it looks a bit ugly compared to the older ones.
the v6s do make 240 hp but they don't exactly tear it up in the quarter mile. i have a friend who owns one and ran low to mid 15s at low altitude with a manual 03 accord coupe that was completely stock. but it really doesnt matter, the accord is not a sports car and it provides plenty of power for a car of its class. |

I'm talking NO maintenance costs, EVER. After over 93,000 miles. Besides your normal oil changes and routine maintenance, that car has NEVER failed once. Now, tell me the name of any American made car that can do that. |

And yes, I've seen it happen. |

Short of oil change tires alignments etc... it's lasted and I'm not even the original owner so I have no idea how this thing was treated before I got it. If you take care of any car it will last. |

On one side you have car enthusiasts... on the other side you have car owners. An enthusiast sees a car as more than four wheels and an engine. The car owner is interested only in the practical aspects of the vehicle. Which is perfectly fine but the two sides will never see or fully understand a car the way another person sees it. Case in point...cars with souls are kept alive endlessly by enthusiasts. The same year your car was built a Mustang from that same year 20 years from now will have other enthusiasts clamoring for it. In 20 years even if your Honda is still running fine nobody would want it. It would end up in the crusher. |
