Dvd/tv player?

I want to purchase a tv/dvd player to be installed in the roof of my new Avalanche. Any ideas? They have them at the factory for $1600- $1800 too much for me.I'm wondering if there are any good on line sites to beat this price. Also i'm wondering if i might just have to settle on a dvd player only, to cut down on the price. That might be ok to have a a dvd player only, but a tv is nice too. I have a perfect spot in the ceiling to mount it too. Also im wondering on lcd and size too? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

are you planning on installing this yourself?

Go to www.crutchfield.com They've got good stuff there, and are great people to work with. You can take it elsewhere to have it installed.

www.partsexpress.com is the place I use just as often if not more often than crutchfield, though I get most of my stuff at dealer cost from my buddy Manny.

I think the size you want to use depends a lot on the car. If its a larger SUV type vehicle, the 7 inch units get easily dwarved by the rest of the car, whereas this might not be as bad in a sedan type installation. IMO, anything smaller than 7 inches isn't worth the money.

Over at T-Rex audio in CT we use mostly Farenheit stuff. They look pretty sweet, even the larger units look clear (17 inch wide screen that was put in the tailgate of a show truck). They're reasonably priced, too. I honestly wouldnt consider a TV tuner a big priority, as from what I've seen, very few channels come in. If you're interested, they even make a din unit that folds out of the dash if you have room the equivalent size of a stereo head unit.

No comment about video equipment in cars, but make sure that you have a serious talk with your insurance agent if you do put one in. Most people assume that stuff like this is covered under their normal policy when it probably isn't. Speaking from experience, in Virginia, while permanently installed stereo equipment is covered, most companies don't cover video at all regardless of installation. You have to purchase a seperate rider to cover video.

Your state may be different, but talk to your agent anyway. It would suck to have some jackhole bust a window and steal you expensive video/dvd only to find that your insurance won't cover it.
