Car Names that Suck

Just a few ...

Chevy Nova- No va means 'no go' in spanish .

Ford Focus. Focus on what ? It's utter fugliness ?

Ass-tek ... oops, they actually named it ' Aztek 'but c'mon. They must have realized the similarity would become apparent and come to mind immediately upon seeing the thing.Who spiked the crack-pipe with formaldehyde that day?

Oh, and the Yugo .

What car/truck names bite it , in your opinion ?

Loup 08-03-2003 12:50 PM

I don't like any of the names that Kia has come up with.

“… They want names like Mustang and Cheetah. Vicious animal names” - Herb Powell (7F16 - Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? - The Simpsons)

Stare At The Sun 08-03-2003 01:26 PM

I thought the eagle talon/mitsubishi eclipse were/are very cool names. also, number names, 3000gt, gt40 are really cool....

As far as shitty names go:

Town and country( its just silly)
the aztek
Baja
Bonneville sucks too imo

Mephisto2 08-03-2003 02:39 PM

Prajero...

It means WANKER in Spanish apparently...

Mr Mephisto

platypus 08-03-2003 02:49 PM

Volkswagon Touareg.

Supposedly named for a tribal people from west Africa. The word "tuareg" is Arabic, meaning "abandoned by the gods."

Nice name for a car.

Halx 08-03-2003 02:50 PM

I think dae-woo makes some pretty bad car names

unfortunately, yahoo took them off their auto list, so I cant name them

I think nubira was one..

striderkevin 08-03-2003 03:25 PM

The name Kia sucks in itself, Daewoo and Ford's 'Focus' suck as well.

castex 08-03-2003 04:10 PM

Mitsubishi's Carisma - the name fits the car like an extremely poor-fitting glove. On the wrong hand.

Jerpitcher 08-03-2003 04:48 PM

the Volkswagon "Thing" that came out in the 60s or 70s

FastShark85 08-03-2003 06:14 PM

Renault's LeCar.

LeCrap.

MSD 08-03-2003 11:09 PM

The Chevy Nova thing is an urban legend, I'm just too damn lazy to move my hand to the mouse and pull up Snopes.

Kia Sephia - Don't make the names rhyme, it's just lame.
Kia Sportage - Reminds me too much of "Shrinkage" and that's not a fun thought.

I want to splice some Mazda nameplates sometime and see how long it takes a friend to realize he's driving the new and more evil than ever before Mazda 666

acpower 08-04-2003 01:22 AM

as popular as these two cars are... i'd have to say the vw bug and beetle... why name cars after insects??

johnnymysto 08-04-2003 08:18 AM

Volkswagen Rabbit ... there's power for ya.

Kia Sephia ... sounds like the mom from the Golden Girls.

Ford Aspire ... as in, I aspire to have a better car one day

FastShark85 08-04-2003 09:27 AM

Ford Festiva...aka the Ford "Fajita".

Merkur "XR4TI".....that's a name????

The Gremlin....makers must have known it would have problems

novadude 08-04-2003 09:50 AM

The original Volkswagen was never called "The Bug" or "The Beetle". It was simply the Type I 1600. It wasn't until 1998 when VW took a dump and called it "The New Beetle" that it's official name was anything of an insect.

novadude 08-04-2003 09:53 AM

Oh, and the Nova "it doesn't go" thing is an urban legend. It would be just as akward to say "it doesn't go" in Spanish as it is in English. And the Nova actually sold very well in Mexico.

well some of the Nova's didn't go:)

Halx 08-04-2003 12:15 PM

Not to bash the awesome car, but something about "Honda Prelude" leads you to believe there is something better on the horizon

Stare At The Sun 08-04-2003 07:32 PM

^ha, never thought of it that way...

Rodney 08-04-2003 08:17 PM

AMC Gremlin -- a gremlin a sort of demon, but is also an old aviator's term for a troublesome mechanical foulup -- who'd name a car after that?

Fun fact: for reasons entirely innocent, I once had a meet with Anton LaVey, founder of the latter day Church of Satan. And he arrived in -- you guessed it -- a Gremlin.

When I was down in Costa Rica, I saw a monster Hyundai SUV that they don't market in the states, called The Galloper. I though that name pretty much sucked.

That's the one I was gonna add. Always made me wonder why they named it that.

Haha, well, technically, they did "prelude" to something. The s2000! The prelude was discontinued shortly after the release of that 240 hp rear wheel 4 cylinder spyder.

Atomic Pinkie 08-05-2003 12:22 AM

Boxster...when you make a square car...lets not make it too obvious

Civic, when the hell do they do a civil service? WWWWWWWWHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEE WHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I believe that Boxster is a combination of roadster and boxer (in reference to its boxer engine). And I'm not sure that I'd consider the Porsche Boxster a 'square' car. :D

Fajita; LOL!

Now I can't get that dam jingle out of my head, "It'ssss... A Festiva"

GSRIDER 08-05-2003 11:19 AM

I hate all the SUV names, explorer, expedition... they all seem to incite this aura of "look at me, I'm on a great adventure" but you're not. Most are going to the office and soccer practice.

They should name them what they are. "Cock enhancer", "mom cab w/ balls", "my other auto is a minivan".

seriously

tj2001cobra 08-05-2003 12:41 PM

I've never liked Neons. Everytime I hear the name, I think of that dumb commecial where all it said was "Hi."

Also, the Brat (cant remember who made it) was stupid.

dy156 08-05-2003 02:27 PM

I've always thought the names escape, explorer, expedition, and excursion went with the wrong vehicle. Escape makes me think of an escape pod -small, I can buy that. But I think of an excursion as a little side trip that is far less of a big deal than a whole expedition to go somewhere.

Another car name observation:
BMW 3 series -about $30K
5 series -50K
7 series 70K about
couldn't they come up with something better?

Also, I miss the Integra, Legend and Vigor. Much better than 3.2TL, etc...

Rodney 08-05-2003 02:37 PM

I also think the Toyota Tundra is a stupid name. Tundra is a treeless frozen wasteland in the winter, a mucky swamp in the summer with swarms of biting insects that could kill a naked man in 30 minutes or less. So just how does this equate with a pleasurable driving experience. Man, how 'bout the Toyota Wasteland? The Toyota Quicksand? The Toyota Sinkhole?

bleet 08-05-2003 05:09 PM

no mention for the ford probe? what? worst name in history.

bend over, and take this ford probe.

Made by Subaru. F'ing deathmobile for rear passengers. Had those two plastic seats with hand grips facing backwards in the bed.

Always thought the Dodge Avenger had a dopey name. Avenge what? And must you wear a bowler and carry a brolly to drive it?

avenge what?

well that ford fiesta just beat you off the line! d'oh!

:D

snoop 08-05-2003 06:21 PM

The Mitsi Starrion was a piss weak attempt to cash in on car names such as the all american musclecar the MUSTANG . . unfortunately the asians (no disrespect intended) had problems vocalising Stallion and the name became Starrion before it was released . . . these were quite common two door turbo's in OZ in the mid to late 80's

Yeah, the question should really be, "Avenge how?".

I had one of these in the mid 80's. Frickin' pocket rocket. Smokin' fast. Never knew or even thought of the Starion/Stallion name thing.

castex 08-06-2003 06:36 AM

Citroën's Picasso. Half the late artist's family battled hard to stop it happening, but they lost. With pretty tragic consequences:

FastShark85 08-06-2003 09:03 AM

What about the "Suzuki Sidekick".

I guess they were describing the action someone needed to take with their leg to knock the thing over.

probe, prelude, gmc-saffarie

Snoogans 08-06-2003 12:20 PM

I think Honda made a car a few years ago named "Fitta", wich in Swedish means "Pussy". Can you imagine how many utterly stupid puns/jokes there would have been if they released it here... I'd kill to own one though...:D

supernova 08-06-2003 03:58 PM

Isuzu Amigo. I guess this would make sense if you had a friend who had a limp, was partially blind in one eye, and was ready to keel over.

skippy 08-06-2003 06:36 PM

ok here is a really dumb name

Ford f150.... "Eddie Bauer", what the hell is that for a name, the fricken truck needs a safari hat on the roof instead of a dome light.

Or the chevrolet 1500 "scotsdale" it comes with a tartan interior. (did someone lose a lesiure suit?)

The best names for vehicles ever... The Land Rover or the toyota Land cruiser.

they are classics

Peryn 08-06-2003 08:50 PM

Scion. Not only is it ugly, its sounds terrible too

souzafone 08-06-2003 08:51 PM

How about a misused name -Pontiac Lemans made in Korea.Or Chevette, almost a Chevy.

wondash 08-07-2003 04:05 AM

How about the Canyonero!

Can you name the truck with four wheel drive?
smells like a steak and seats thirty five!
Canyonero......canyonero
Well it goes real slow with the hammer down
It's the country fried truck endorsed by a clown
Canyonero.....canyonero Hey Hey!!
{The federal highway commision has ruled the Canyonero unsafe for highway or city driving}
Twelve yards long, two lanes wide, sixty five tons of American pride!
Canyonero....canyonero
Top of the line in utility sports
unexplained fires are a matter for the courts
Canyonero....canyonero
She blinds everybody with her super high beams
She's a squirrel-crushin' deer-smackin' driving machine
Canyonero.....Canyonero"

merkerguitars 08-07-2003 10:46 PM

Ford Aspire...sounds more like assfire to me

impreza56 08-08-2003 12:17 AM

what about the ford ka, holden cruze, or the proton waja??

32v4c 08-08-2003 11:50 AM

Ford Aspire - as in it "aspires" to not be a piece.

Camaro, El Camino, Durango - the 3 o's that make no sense.

kajagoogoo 08-08-2003 05:21 PM

yeah durango!
wtf is that?

rogue49 08-09-2003 09:24 PM

One of my old cars

Diahatsu Charade

Great car, very underestimated.
It could do anything.
I loved it for what it was worth.

But the name was horrible.
People would always say it right after me in a question form?
"Daihatsu?"
"God bless you";) (sorry, it was a running joke I had)

YaWhateva 08-09-2003 10:44 PM

The Honda Element is a stupid car and has a stupid name.

http://maddox.xmission.com/element3b.jpg

Here is the link to Maddox's take on four crappy cars.

http://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=ugly_cars

vermin 08-10-2003 08:03 AM

First time I saw a Honda Element was about 3 weeks ago. My first thought: "Damn! That's just as ugly as the Aztec!". Some car designers need to be clubbed like baby seals.

As for the worst car names: Pacer, Aspire (my wife's stupid friend owns one and pronounces it ASS-pyre), and Parisienne (Buick).

BoCo 08-10-2003 10:14 AM

Prelude

What the fuck was it a prelude to???

reconmike 08-10-2003 10:25 AM

Stanza, it stands a for crap,
Maxima, maxima cost for ownership
sentra, it should be sentra right to the junk yard.
