"Thank you, come again!"

Very nice - looks like Batman's drug dealer's wheels. I'd still take the phurrari or lambo, mind:)

DEI37 07-31-2003 04:21 AM

This car has a lot of potential. I don't like the wheel design OR size, but other than that, it's pretty neat.
Think about this for a minute. Bugatti's Veyron has a W16 making 1001 hp. With multi-valve, multi-cam heads. This V16 makes 1000hp with no tuning, pushrods, and two valves per cylinder...naturally aspirated. Sounds good to me!

Magpie0001 07-31-2003 04:30 AM

Y'see this is my downfall, DEI37 I have absolutely no idea what youre talking about. Sorry! I just like the looks & figure 1000hp (?) is a pretty big number as numbers go.
Thanks for the imput though. I guess its pretty impractical but if youre paying a small/large fortune for a car like this Impracticality isnt really a problem.

absorbentishe 07-31-2003 05:08 AM

I hadn't seen that before, WOW! I like it, of course the resemblence to the Batmobile is there, I'd still love to get one!

ozracn2 07-31-2003 05:09 AM

hate the car, but would love the engine.

Granted, if you took a big block chevy to 1000 horse, it would probably still cost less than to take just the stock engine on this.

tfpfreak 07-31-2003 05:54 AM

I would have to agree with you Magpie0001 over ferrari or lambo anyday

NO WAY.

Agree. Nor will it look the same. They never do.

thepakratjr 07-31-2003 07:31 AM

Pretty sweet.

soccerchamp76 07-31-2003 09:17 AM

Has the ability to shut down some of the cylinders in cruise mode to save some gas mileage and will fire them all during heavy usage.

Peryn 07-31-2003 09:46 AM

just me or the exhaust pipes on the headers look really small for that engine? course i got no idea how big that tire is, so no real proportion on it...

Anyway, the engine tech is insane. Shutting down cylinders and other crazy stuff they got going on. I have no real doubt that they will produce it, and they will have that power. i dont, however, think that it will look quite like that when produced. Given their current styling trends though, it very well may...

If i remember right, these are going for like 200k or so when they are shipped, and are being made in very small quantities....some like 100 of em.

Mesmerize 07-31-2003 10:54 AM

If I was going to buy a Cadillac (and all these concepts were available for purchase) I'd take a Cien

If I remember correctly the Sixteen has all-wheel steering, which is a good thing considering it's dimensions. I think it's sort of ugly myself. I'll take a Ferarri or a Lambo for the money. :)

http://www.cadillac.com/cadillacjsp/...c16/specs.html

This says the wheels are 24" x 9"

32v4c 07-31-2003 01:22 PM

GM is doing amazing things these days. If we see the solstice with a configuration near to the concept at a price like lutz suggested I think it'll be the sign that there is a real renaissance of american car design.

This however is not. Its just stupid. The C5 corvette is great because it was made to be extremely cost efficient - and at the same time it is a near supercar. Cadillac can't seem to get its marketing straight - are they going after MB? Lexus? BMW? What ARE they?

Despite the CTS and Escalade and Cien I cant help but think Cadillac is an example of the kind of lousy f-body marketing mistakes that have plagued gm for years.

King Penguin 07-31-2003 02:00 PM

Like the front ... hate the back......just my opinion

sixate 07-31-2003 02:13 PM

Now way in hell I'd take this over a Ferrari.

Ferrari > all other car manufacturers. :D

WarWagon 07-31-2003 02:14 PM

It'll be priced towards elitist customers, so yes, it'll make it to production with 1000 hp. They don't have to offer any real practicality for it to sell.

This motor is not the first to have variable cylinder firing by Cadillac. Some people may remember the disaster known as teh 4-6-8.

The Bugatti did.

Pyke 07-31-2003 08:04 PM

The new Escalade will have a V10 based upon that engine (i.e. chop off six cylinders, same block). The next Corvette Z06 is rumoured to have a V8 based off the same block.
The next Cadillac sedan (seville redesign) will share many styling cues with this.

Peryn 07-31-2003 09:52 PM

1000 HP will come out of that car if it ever gets produced. Will it be CA legal? that might get tough.

Anyway, they are not trying to compete with anyone. People shell out far more money than the caddy for Bently's, Rolls and other elitist cars. The Sixteen will be a limited run elitist luxory car. No practicality at all. thats not its goal.

They are trying to get back at their "roots" from the 20's or so when they used to make several 16cyl motors. This is to appeal to the old rich guys with way too much money, not to be a lambo beating super-racer.

bobbles 07-31-2003 10:44 PM

The wheels and back end let it down, the rest is nice though

Slash 08-01-2003 02:43 AM

I wonder if it will ever make it to production. Would be a pretty cool car to own as a collectable.

Mephisto2 08-03-2003 12:30 AM

That's got to be the most UGLY thing I've ever seen...

Mr Mephisto

Pragma 08-03-2003 08:18 AM

Horribly ugly car, but it is nice engine.

Still, for as much money as you'd pay for that car, buy a Ferrari or a Lambo.

World's King 08-03-2003 12:39 PM

My pants are getting tighter...

acpower 08-04-2003 01:26 AM

ok about the interior... with 16 cylinders what happens when you floor it?? you go to sleep?

noblejr 08-04-2003 10:58 AM

A mid-mount four-door with sixteen sylinders; I don't like it at all. To me, a car that is made just to be made should not be driven.

Scorps 08-04-2003 11:03 AM

I want on of them so badly, and if I win lottary I will own one:)

MSD 08-07-2003 07:18 PM

The problem I see is failure of displacement-on-demand. How exactly do you cut off half or a quarter of an engine and leave the rest running? You need clutch plates on the crankshaft. I see those wearing down quickly inside of an engine. To balance the engine properly, you'll need to get the sections running at exactly the same speed, then join them when they're at the right point in the rotation. Trying to think of how a 3-camshaft, 3-crankshaft system would work gives me a headache. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I think a failure or glitch in this system would be a mechanical nightmare.

big_bubba 08-09-2003 09:06 PM

I'll take the engine, but the car they wrapped aroudn it is FUGLY.

SweetVroom 08-09-2003 09:50 PM

The way they cut half the engine off? I'm pretty sure they borrowed some MercedesBenz S600 stuff, they've had the ability to turn off some stuff for a little while. AFAIK they are the first with that ability on a V12.

macmanmike6100 08-10-2003 02:25 PM

gotta say that it looks very much like the car driving by the Ambiguously Gay Duo.

Nice car, though! Check out the Mercedes Maybach, too.
