Yeah what a sleeper....
:D |
Can't beat the 6 sec neons with the CNC machined 4L in line 4.
|
why does it need wheelie bars if it's front-wheel-drive?
|
To counter weight shift which would naturally lift the front wheels off the ground and make them lost more traction. The bars effectively hold the front of the car on the ground..
|
Where does it say "front wheel drive"?
You ain't gonna get it moving off the line well with 750 brake on a fwd car - it'll be rwd. |
Ignore that last one - I see the FWD mention.
They'd get a lot further with RWD though. Muppets. |
Thats one mean mopar machine.
|
There's another one that was featured in SuperStreet a little while ago, a lot better than this one...around 960 hp w/ a lot more invested...Could smoke the pants off this one anyday
EDIT: You can also tell its FWD by the front tires, Notice they're like, 12+Inch's thick, and the rear tires are skinnies (like, 6 inch's or less thick) |
Mopar and Chevrolet have been doing some pretty amazing things with their "little" 4 cylinder engines. Last I heard the Ecotech 4 of Chevrolet's had been tuned to 2000hp with several enourmous turbos. Obviously nothing that is going to be a street car, but damned impressive none the less.
|
now that is sweet
|
hmmm what can i say ;]]] What a nice quatermiler :]
|
well, to comment on an above post, look at the wheels man. See the huge front wheels and tiny rears? If its not front drive, then somebody better shoot the guy who put the tires on wrong. Sorry, I'm a bastard, I know
|
impressive machine, but I wouldnt be caught dead in it =P
|
yeah looks like crap from the front, i mean, i thought, whoa, someone diced the new t-bird
|
dodge is just jealous of rice
|
poo, pure poo, albeit extremely fast poo
|
Import 2nr scene teh suck
the real import tuner scene PWNZ |
its still a mopar
|
Wow you're really catching alot of shit...
...maybe 'cause you didn't say cheese in the photo. ...nice ride |
its pretty sweet
|
It's a neon.
So it's really fast. It's still a neon. A lot like owning a J body, but...worse. |

Yep, its still a Fucking NEON...once toughted as the "Happy Car" if i recall, how ghey. they need a new car to replace this if they want to be "performance" the name NEON just doesnt work.
|
Im sure once you drive in all that wont matter.

He did all that work and invested over $60 000 in an SRT-4 and didn't bother switching out the tranny? That's just... odd. |

I ave that same problem. I love manuals and I want to make a big hp v8 some day (800 or more). But by that hp range many people switch to autos. I still have a hard time with auto and preformance.
|
if anyone hasnt seen it: check out Http://www.buschurracing.com
7 second Talon, very cool car :) But that neon is still a neon, i mean, sure i'd drive a new srt4, but i wouldnt be happy about it! That is, untill i beat a vette(after a few grand in mods)...then i would be grinning, but still.... |
If you're going to spend a fortune making a car fast, why not start with something that looks a little better?
Still, I can appreciate all the work that's obviously gone into that car. |
Pretty cool.
|
bla bla imports suck bla bla.
Technology has made many imports as efficiently tunable as v8s. Sure any mod you can put on a 4cyl can be put on a V8 and it will be better, but I doubt your v8 came from the factory with a turbo, Mine did. The alure to the true import tuner scene, and Im not talking about the bling lights and wing "tuning", is the fact that people place low expectations on your "lil 4 cyl econobox". So much so that, when my AWD turbo grocery getter on all season tires pulls out a quicker ET than the big noisey v8 "muscle car" trailer queen, people either gasp or cheer for who they thought was the under dog. Thats why we do it, we strive to violate your expectations of what you thought our cars were capable of. See ya at the track. Ken 95 Talon TSi AWD Post note: Dave Bushur (in the link above) hit the wall in that 8 second talon last month so it is down for a lil while. Much more impressive than that is John Shepherd, whose 90 Talon runs a stock body and windows with somewhat of an interior. This past weekend he hit 9.05 @ 15X MPH at Norwalk raceway in northern ohio. www.shepracing.com |
Why does every one get down on the neon. I dive a 95 neon. It is a damned nice little car. Yeah it is not a v8, or fast. But it gets me to work and back with 40 mpg. The way every one talks about the neon I would swear that some one straped a 4 foot dildo to a neon and then analy raped Mother Terresa with it. As for DSM's they are fun, you just need a huge check book. My last car was a 91 TSI AWD. I loved it. But it was a drain on the wallet. When I wasn't fixing something I was buying some kind of upgrade for it. Also why do people get down on 4 bangers so much? Is it because of the ricer trend? I want to make a turbo neon when I get the funds. Why? For the fun of it. Same reason I am putting a motor on a couch, and a motorcycle engine in a golf cart.
|
I haven't got anything against the neon, I haven't even seen one in real life (they don't sell them over here). I think it looks alright though, a lot better than most japanese economy cars for certain.
For a performance car that I was going to pour that much money into, though, I would probably choose something flashier. |
gah. still a neon. it's fast though.

are you one of those guys who pigeonholes everyone for their comments?
personally, i just dislike neons. ** edited by Cynthetiq because I went a little overboard ** Quote:
|
So bleet, why do you dislike Neons? every one has a right to their oppinion, but I was just wondering how you got your hatred for the Neon?
|
I can't believe the weight. I wanna drive something that's under 2000 lbs..
|
For all you 4 banger technology buffs out there, i don't know who said it but they said it best. There's no substitute for cubic inches.
I once saw a sticker on a 1996 Twin Turbo Toyota Supra at the Qualcomm 1/8 mile drags here in San Diego that read : "Technology is the only subsitute for cubic inches" Boy was he wrong. Granted he was just an idiot, cause he didn't ever burn out and he spun his tires 1/2 way down the track, but every single high CI car there smoked him and every other 4 cyl. car there. There was an old 60's Nova II wagon with nothing but a Chevy 502ci Big Block in it smoking everything. I'll say it plain and simple, 4 bangers are cool and all with their factory turbos, but don't expect a souped up 4 banger to ever beat a souped up V8. Fastest drag cars in the world are V8's. Can you tell I like big engines? BTW : Nice SRT-4. I love Dodge, always have, always will. Anyone who makes an engine as awesome as the Hemi is good for life in my book. |
this car is a bracket race car. it could churn out better quarter numbers, but seeing as they can hit .003 with in their dial in time at the worst, Its a pretty damn good race car.
3 spd auto is good for bracket racing because you have 3 gears which you can setup to shift at an exact time, plus autos will always shift faster than a manual. Mopar rocks! |
Auto > Manual for the strip. Even speed shifting, which destroys your transmission, isn't as fast as an auto. No substitute.
|
I think one thing that the hard core big block guys need to realize is that there are 2 types of 4 banger guys. One type is like me. I realize that displacement is always king. Turbo a 2.0 and get 300 ponies, turbo a 5.0 and get 500 or more. I love big v8's but 4 bangers are fun also. Then there is the other type. They are just dumb. They think that a turbo 4 will take anything.
|
crappy build. crappy engine. just too many stories of friends/acquaintences that's had a shitty neon, and so forth.
i most certainly hate their look. but then, i dislike a lot of autos. ;) and it isn't just "anti-dodge" them i'm going on. i like the viper, dislike where the new truck look is going..blahblah there are just some cars a guy can't stand. neon being one of mine. cheers Quote:
|
Thats cool. I can respect that.
|
Damn that things ugly! Fast, but ugly :) I wonder how long that tranny is going to last with 700 some hp going through it...
And for all the import vs domestic and 4 banger vs v8, who cares? Drive what you like, be happy with it, and let others do the same. |
I saw a PT Cruiser Drag car the other day......funny stuff.

No one Turbos high-displacement engines unless it's gonna be 2+ Turbos, and even if you do it's gonna cost you a lot more. I.E. NASCAR has 4 (yes, four) Turbos on theirs, and things like Champ cars and F-1's usually have 2 if any. |
There are lots of single turbo kits for lt1 and ls1 engines. But I have to say that twin turbo is the way to go. And did I have to specificaly mention twin turbo? I was trying to keep the comparison the same. Me? I am saving up the cash for a twin turbo 350 or 454. I am still trying to decide on the size. Only set back is the engine is going to cost me well over $10k, then I need to find a car to put it in. As for supercharging, it just seems that every one does it. So I want to avoid SC for now.
|
impressive piece of machinery there
very impressive Cheers |
