At least this way the Italian government and people will pay.

It may seem like old history, but a lot of people fail to remember how profitable and successful Chrysler was when they were acquired by Daimler Benz.

This paper from a Dartmouth student explains it quite well:

On the other hand I doubt the problems that surfaced after the DCX merger are going to be the same issues that could potentially ruin the Fiat Chrysler merger. If you look at how Fiat's CEO Sergio Marchionne turned that company around in three years, you should have confidence that he'll be able to do what Cerberus couldn't do. Truth be told, I have more trust in Marchionne than I do in Carlos Ghosn, the golden child that everybody's been begging to help lead Detroit out of the wilderness.

Does everyone remember the circumstances of Fiat's U.S. departure the first time? They were booted for failing to honor their warranties, then they gave us Yugo. I don't have a good feeling about this.

We can only hope Fiat does a good job. It will be interesting to see if we end up with cars that people want to buy.
