That's one ugly SUV for $75,000!
Saw a Mercedes G500 on the Belt Parkway in LI over the weekend. Fugly!
http://www.mbusa.com/media/images/ma.../G500_main.jpg I also saw one of these..... http://www.ferrari.com/ferrari/image...photo_side.jpg Ferrari 360 Modena, Sweet! But in Long Island, it doesn't matter how fast your car is. Everyone sits in traffic. |
I think both of those vehicles have lots of class. The benz in a beautiful gas guzzler. Worth $75k? Prolly not.
|
The G500 goes anywhere. You'll find that several of the armies in Europe swear by the damn thing. Why you'd get it with leather, dubs, etc... however, is beyound me... But supposedly good xc... The 360 on the other hand goes nowhere that isn't smooth as a baby's bottom, but it does go there fast!!! And its real purty...
|
I like the Benz. If I had $75k to toss in the air, I'd probably go for it.
|
the G series SUV design is an old one... I remember my father testing it in 86-87. They imported them for 1-2 years, and since the SUV market had not hit yet, they pulled them from the US shores.
I saw the Long Island Ferrari Modena on Thursday it was parked out front of Sardi's in Midtown. |
For go-anywhere off roaders. I'd love to try the Lambo LM002 :
<img src="http://www.lamborghiniregistry.com/LM002/HLA12048b.jpg"></img> It uses the old countach 48 valve V12 engine (7 liter marine engine was an option). I think it was used by the Saudi army. Never seen any for sale, so no ideas on pricing. |
I don't really think the G class is very appealing. I'd prefer another SUV, in the upper class maybe the porsche cayanne, or X5. More affordable an Acura MDX or Infiniti FX45.
|
The G-Wagon is the shit! How can you not love that thing???
|
Funny story is there was one importer (in NM, I believe) for the entire US a few years back. People were paying 175 to 200 thousand for this vehicle, and then Mercedes just goes whole hog and sells them for 75k. I'd feel sorry for the people who bought them, but if you plopped 200k on a vehicle like this, I wouldn't stop myself from laughing.
|
The G-class is a car that dates back way into the 70s. It is a true icon. For us Europeans it is the same as your Hummer. But older.
It is very similar in image as driving a Landrover Defender, except it's much better and more expensive. It is even more expensive than the excellent new Range Rover. Nowadays it is mainly a statussymbol. Most people who have one have it as their 3rd or 4th car. For off roading days. |
If I were rich I would offroad in something like the Mercedes. Some day I will, I just know it.

Looks like the Homermobile....
|
The Mercedes looks like a box on wheels -- is that good?
Not for me... :( |
that is the ugliest piece of shit i've ever seen.
think about the environment for once! why drive something that looks like it was carved out of wood by a 4 year old with down syndrome with a chisel in his teeth AND get 0.1 mpg while doing it? I saw a bunch of stupid bastard yuppies driving one and I wanted to follow them and smash their windows. i really should have done that. if I ever see one of those off-road outside some sort of test, i'll give you all $100. |

Yeah. Around here, cappucino sucking treehuggers drive those, so they can drive like morons and be safe no matter what, while putting everyone else's lives at risk by driving a 4500 block of steel. Look at the Lincoln Navigator or the new Honda CRV. Leather seats in an SUV? Come on. Luxury, or Rugged. Pick one.
|
the G55 AMG is a friggin brick on steroids
|
I actually like it. Very Classic Looking and easy to pound out the dents after a hard week wheeling. These new SUV with all the compound curves are a bitch.

I knew someone that had a G-Wagen years back. It was one of the many cars he'd managed to wreck. I couldn't believe it when he said he'd wrecked a friggin G-Wagen.
He wrote off most of his cars .... Porsche 928, Porsche 911s (a few), various Saabs. He never did any damage to his Bentley though. |
I think the G class is great. It looks so much better than anything else near its class, and has the capabilities to match.

A little too angular, but very classy. If I needed to tote around a lot of people it might be a classy ride.

Ugly as sin......but would really want to go off roading with a 75K suv. Owell what ever turns you on!
|
Man, there are just too many people that think money makes ugly and/or crappy cars incredible.
|
if i had 75k, it wouldnt go towards that, i'd buy a jeep, and then like 5 other cars, and a LOT of tits/ass. :D
|
OK, those pictures suck ass, because it looks like crap there. However, I've seen it (the AMG version) in person, and it's fucking cool as hell. DEFINITELY a tank. I'd buy one to use it, off the road.
|
dude, the G wagon rules! But i would get an older one from the 70s instead of the new ones. There is a reason you used to see either those or landrovers all over africa--they can go everywhere!
|
It may not look the prettiest but the G-500 is one handling motherfuker on the road, and the G-55.......OH MY GOD!!
Personally I love them but that may be beacuse I especially love the nice fat commission I get when I sell one:D But in all honesty they handle like a dream. I had to deliver one to the desert during some heavy winds and while everyone was being tossed around on the freeway in the winds this truck cut right through it at 75 mph. If you ever get a chance though drive the G-55 it will change your mind........I PROMISE! |
i don't know how you can call the g-wagen ugly, it combines form with function. if you really want ugly, you should check out the p diddy navigator, at an affordable 85K, that is one car i would never spend my money on.
|
I too would plunk down 75g's on a G class if I had it. The inside is even nicer.
See quite a few of them in the Encino area of L.A. They're not wussy looking like a Lexus RX330  |
Ok, how about this then:
Lingenfelter 427 Twin-Turbo Escalade EXT. 700hp at 5200rpm! 0 to 60 in 4 seconds flat! $124,000 (including the stock EXT)! http://www.caranddriver.com/assets/i...7200391843.jpg |
escalade is v-nice :]]]]
about this mercedes g-series... when you get inside everything else (eg. how it looks from outside) doesnt matter anymore at all... Shame it's not as beautifull on the outside as it is inside :((( |

The Caddy might be faster, but there is NO doubt that the Merc is the better car of the 2. |
I think this is a nice car. Back then I used to think it was ugly. I guess the look just grown on me.

The G-Wagen is a prime example of function over form and that there's beauty to be found in functionality. Its a civilian version of a vehicle found in various militaries... |

Hell you could buy a Jeep and turn it into the most incredible offroad vehicle know to man that would leave the G begging for mercy and still have a hell of a lot of money left over for T and A |
I heard that one of the guys who wrote a review of that suv almost ran into and 18 wheeler because the windows are at an angle that cause them to reflect off each other. He wrote that he saw it real close on his right side and started to veer left when he realized it was just the reflection.

Roll like P. Diddy in $85,000 SUV |
At $75k I'm sorry, but the Gelandwagen is just too f'ing expensive and heavy with that stel body.
At under $40k... http://www.rackauto.hu/auto/defender.jpg Aluminium body (but big fuckoff steel ladder chassis) and if you are serious about taking the thing off-road, remember that ground clearance is everything. http://home.t-online.de/home/livings...rs/landrvr.jpg Oh yeah, incidentally the long wheelbase (5 door station wagon in the pics will carry 11 or 12 people http://www.terrigal.net.au/~rca/images/ArbBar02.jpg Like the advert says... The best 4 X 4 X Far. |

Its not all about looks...G class are pure Fuctionallity over form, The people that do buy them, dont give a shit about look. That solid thud you hear when you close the door, thats pure functionality. Personally, i'd buy one if i had an extra 120,000 or so laying around (Canadian Prices...give or take a few...)
G55's can pretty much own anything in their class...You can't compare an aftermarket up the ass Caddilac to a factory SUV.... If your gonna do that, might as well compare a Street Edition Civic Si to a Mugen S2... |
shitbox for rollin dubs in
|
Fucking ugly
|
I think the G500 is crazy good. It's a tank. It looks badass, and rides ridiculously smooth. My mom drives an M55 AMG, but I made her test drive the G500 first. I liked it a lot more than the M, but she said it was too much for her. Boo
|
I used to think the Porsche Cayenne was fugly, but after driving along side one the other day, I've got admit I wouldn't mind having one (or at least taking the engine from a Cayenne 'S')
|
I think the whole idea about the G-wagon is its pure utilitarian design. You don't need aerodynamics in the jungle/forest/desert, it's exterior is a result of interior functions. For Mercedes to make it a luxury vehicle is simply cashing in on a growing and lucrative fad. Unfortunately, yuppies do buy them for the status, they may not ever go off-roading, but they know if they wanted to... they could. Mercedes doesn't give a shit, sure, throw in leather and a comfier suspension, as long as they sell it doesn't matter what's done with them afterwards. Either way, a real g-wagon is an amazing peice of machinery, but the point of a utilitarian vehicle is that its necessary. If you're driving through the shit everyday, and you want something that's going to last two decades, buy one, if you're not... buy a corolla.
|
I think Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston own a G500 each, so they must be good.
|
G500 sucks, G55 sucks, get a G63 :D (although not possible because AMG ran out of te 6.3 liter engines :D)
Uncle has a G500 cab and a G63, he does go extreme off roading and yeah, they can hold their own, VERYWELL! Also a quick run to the supermarket does wonders also because of the whole load of stuff it can haul. And to us, it looks good. Sure they may not have changed in look over the years but it's still killer. |

Wow $75000 for that. I wouldnt drive that if they gave it to me much less pay for it.
|
Its pretty ugly. Personally, I dont really like how most of the Mercedes look.
People who drive Mercedes don't drive it because it looks nice or performs well, but rather because its a class statement. |
