Salvation for American open-wheel racing?

For the past 13 years, open-wheel racing in America has been nothing short of a joke. What was the once mighty CART split into the IRL (Indy Racing League) and Champ Car racing. IRL does mostly ovals, champ cars turn left and right. Both series have been besieged by low attendance compared to the juggernaut known as NASCAR.

I love Formula 1, and would love for American open-wheel racing to fulfil its potential as an exciting motorsport. Count me as one of the people who doesn't see the appeal of watching cars being driven around an oval track.

Round and round and round and round for 4 fuckin hours, no excitement there, IMO.

I'm an F-1 and WRC fan, used to watch CART, never cared for IRL as turning one way isn't my idea of good viewing. I still enjoy watching ALMS races as they are always exciting. Then of course I watch LeMans each year as it's the ultimate race.

At all about the american le-mans for me, baby!

Even though they do have skip barbers it the wee hours of the days, we always kind of used them as alarm clock.

I like open wheel, both on ovals and road courses. I don't think that a reunification is salvation or anything close to it. Its being done to minimize further loses to each series' owners. Both are a sham. To think that when Tony George formed the IRL, CART had 4 engine manufacturers, three chassis manufacturers, two tire companies and a series sponsor. Today both series are a spec series, one engine, one chassis and one tire and no series sponsor. The Indy 500 was the hardest ticket to get in racing. The race was an instant sell out a week after the last one was ran. Today there are acres of aluminum seating visible when ABC shows an aerial shot. The sport is nearly dead. There's no fundamental change in how the sport will be ran that leads me to believe that if merged it will no be a success. Its too many years to late. Tony George will now have what he wanted, total control over open wheel racing in the US. The fact that its a fraction of what it once was is just a minor detail, I'm sure. :shakehead:

LeManns is spectacular, though it can get long sometimes. Moto GP and SBK is where it's at though.
