I don't care how cool it is... I moved away from Buffalo ny to get away from snow:p

Those are pretty cool.
Does anyone remember that Discovery channel show that had some arctic trucks. I think they were heavily modified toyota landcruisers. If I ever get independently wealthy so that I could have a truck for just in case I'd get one of those. |
I don't know much about them, but the one thing I do recall seeing on DSC is how they inflate their tires. I guess (if they go flat?) out in the Arctic, they spray lighter fluid all over the tire and light it. The gas inside ignites and the tire expands. I think I got that right. Either way, it looked really cool.
I don't think I'd have the balls to drive those in the _real_ real Arctic. The crevices out there are huge. The trucks on the DSC show had huge 'wheelie' bars on the front and back to make sure you wouldn't fall down a crack. I'd prolly forget to lock them. :O |
I was quite happy to see that DSC episode of Extreme Machines. The trucks they showed were Arctic Trucks which is a large 4x4 company in Iceland.
The explosion for filling a tire is not myth it's really handy to do when it's very cold out. The kettle holes in the glaciers are very dangerous which is what those long "wheelie bars" you saw. They are long poles that help keep you topside of the glacier. |
