Combining design elements from different classic Chevrolet models, the 789 shows the world that you really can't have enough of a good thing. The 789 looks instantly iconic because it is a melding of 1957, 1958 and 1959 Chevys. Who says you can't have it all, time tested classic design and up-to-date performance and reliability. This vehicle is built on a 2005-2007 Corvette C6 chassis, virtually the same chassis that won its class at the 24 hours of LeMans for the past few years and is known in the car world as the best value in a performance chassis ever produced.

I saw a good photo spread and writeup about that car. I really like it ...though I always add: show me where the '58 Chevy part is - I just don't see that part. Not to say I don't like '58 Chevy's.

I seem to like that "style" of car customizing. I don't know if it was posted here or if I saw it elsewhere and I don't want to pollute this thread unless you all demand it, but there is an old Volvo done in that style as well as an old Studebaker, both of which I would love to own.

The nose is too Tbird. Combined with the paint scheme it looks like an artistic train wreck.

I don't like it at all. If they want to make a car with design elements from that time period, fine... but why in the heck would they make it a roadster? It really just looks silly having that styling on the Vette chassis with those high-performance wheels/tires, mirrors, and windshield... not to mention the short wheelbase and how "flat" it looks.

But, way too expensive for what it is. For that price, there are a LOT of options.

Totally agree bodypainter, there are better cars to spend $135,000 on.

I'll take two. I see the T-Bird cues, but as a whole, the car is nice. I'd probably take it in a single color paint scheme, though.

Thats is one sexy car. I think the LS2 would make that car pretty quick.

That's pretty cool! I like the fact it looks like a classic... that's been slimmed down some. I betcha that thing would go like the devil!

I couldn't help but note that the specs page didn't list the weight of the car. I imagine the new body weighs more than the old.

Well I 'm thinking that all those extra curves and fins and rolls mean lots of hand laid fiberglas which weighs extra pounds. That plus Chevrolet had incentive and engineering budget to reduce weight (performance, economy) where these guys are mainly going for style and looks.

But most of all, if it actually weighed less, I think they would tout that as a selling point, and they don't. My guess is this 789 porked on a couple hundred pounds or more.

Also, I would bet the stock bumpers are still there under the custom bodywork. They would need to be to keep the airbags working.

Not really. Most cars don't even have crash sensors anymore. A lot of cars have a potentiometer in the airbag control module that senses sudden deceleration, and use that information to deploy the airbags.

Now why would a car from the 50's have airbags? mines a 81 and no airbags.

Cuz it's actually a 2006 Corvette in 50's cars clothing ;)

It may be a bit heavier, but I wonder if they improved the suspension to handle the extra weight... I'd think they'd have to...

I saw that at the NY Auto show earlier this spring. I didn't like it at all. Reminded me too much of the 'anycar' that I used to see in those old TV commercials.
