The BMW M3 is my favorite car, aside from the new Porsche 911 GT3, but I hate chrome. Really torn on this one.

Reminds me of the Terminator.

ubertuber 12-01-2006 10:27 AM

Seems like it might be dangerous - reflections blinding other drivers.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA has a metal skin, and they had to sandblast parts of it to reduce the reflectivity - it was blinding drivers and baking apartments!

zed wolf 12-01-2006 11:30 AM

Oh, thats way cool! I've always wanted an all chrome car! reflection would be a bitch though, My Jeep has a polished stainless steel panel over the tailgate and my friends hate it! I can quite imagine how this car would be!
Oh, and you cane chrome just about anything, think of it like dipping an ice cream cone in chocolate, its about the same theory, just dip, dry and serve! a bit more complicated then that, they usually plate it with other things first, stuff that will 'stick' good to the original product then nickel usually comes right before the chrome dip because the chrome sticks to nickel pretty good.

Those pics are about 2-3 years old. They didn't chrome the entire car as you can't chrome plastic. They used a special paint mix to mimic chrome.

Shortly after those came out on the web, another set of pictures, of a supposedly all silver Audi A8 that belongs to a Saudi Arabian prince. It was later revealed to be untrue and was done in the same manner as that M3.

Interesting side note: it actually weights 4 tons and the glare is responsible for road collissions than radios and cell phones combined.

I'm sorry, are you talking about the car or Linda Tripp?

I have tried to polish aluminium to that degree without any success whatsoever...

Now at your local dealership for only $99,999.99! Call today and get 4 bottles of Windex with your M3!

shakran 12-03-2006 04:16 PM

yeesh. If you're gonna do that to a BMW, at least nickelplate it. So much classier than chrome.

Oh trust me, the tongue was firmly in cheek there ;)

Coyote Hunter 12-06-2006 10:52 AM

The alum Audi wouldn't be siting around here very long you would see it on a shopping cart headed for recycling

hunnychile 12-06-2006 02:18 PM

IMHO it just looks like a great car that got way "too blinged" up...making it look like a gansta ride.

Scorps 12-06-2006 03:01 PM

Seen that before and I want it so badly. The M3 that is.

Twizted 02-07-2007 09:59 PM

 They have angered the auto gods... they should be forced to drive 1987 Ford Taurus with no AC and busted electric windows and a mystery smell coming from under the passanger seat... while its summer... in Arizona!

blade02 02-11-2007 01:41 PM

I like it better than alot of other custom paint jobs I have seen.

Mook 02-15-2007 05:45 PM

The guy that owns the chrome m3 has changed it now.

Chrome rims are now black with polished lips, and the color is Bugatti Pearl White.

Should be out on the road this summer in Toronto.

Agreed. Chroming the whole car- any car - creates a serious eyesore, not to mention ridiculous amounts of glare for everyone around. Chroming should be done tastefully to selected elements- all things in moderation.

Cavi Mike 04-09-2007 06:07 AM

Chroming plastic isn't impossible, the process used is called vacuum metalizing. It's not common to use chromium, aluminum is the preferred metal, but it's not impossible.

Sion 04-14-2007 09:27 PM

besides being UGLY as sin...the all chrome Beamer would be a waxing/polishing nightmare. just looking at it the wrong way would leave a mark...
