Cleaned up the engine bay a little.

Well since it was nice out I decided to clean up the engine bay using some foaming engine bright + some simple green, after about 2 hours of cleaning this is my result from when I first received the car.

Big difference. IIRC, isn't this is the Audi that looked like it was on the bottom of the ocean.

Looks a whole lot better. Makes me feel more than a little bit guilty - I've let mine get a bit too dirty and haven't been able to make the time to clean it up.

Hopefully this'll spur me on.

Yup same car, so far the car has been great to me. All in all I have about $1k into it, but thats new clutch, belts, all new brakes, tuneup stuff, new timing belt, knock sensor, clutch master cylinder and new ecode headlights. I just love having a car that is easy to work on and gets 33mpg.

For a thousand bucks you can't go wrong. Audis are great cars and it looks like all that was ever wrong with this one was neglect.

That looks really amazing! A clean engine bay is the delight of mechanics world wide, and also shows that you respect yourself and your car.

One question...does the quattro 4wd make up for the fact that the engine sits off to the passanger side? That's gotta make for some odd weight distribution.

Also, be careful with the head gasket on that thing. Those inline 5 cylinders have a pasky habit of head gasket leaks (actually reverse head gasket leaks, where engine oil goes into the water, not visa versa).

Actually my car is the 4 cylinder fwd model. The engine sits off to the side due to the engine being at a slant. The 5 cylinder cars have the radiator/ac condensor mounted in the open spot on the drivers side. Man that intake/head was filthy, now I can hear the drivetrain clear as day now.
