Cobalt SS Supercharged
Has anyone spent any significant amount of time behind the wheel of one of these? It has gotten decent reviews in the sport compact realm. I drove one at a car show (GM was doing a demo thing where you could take several models around the block) and it was pretty fun but it was just a quick romp.
Any opinions? |
I test drove one when they came out. How could I resist? I don't reckon I got much more time behind the wheel than you did, but man is it ever a zippy little bugger.

reented one in Florida for a weekend.
unimpressive to me interior, zippy sure, but still uninspired to me for some reason. |
They rent the SS supercharged ones? Where at just curious.

I test drove one and my buddy's girlfriend owns one. It is nice and fast in a straight line, however I found the steering quite slugish. The turning radius also sucked on it. I just didn't feel nimble in it. Plus as mentioned before the interior sucks. I enjoyed the raw power in a straight line, but that was about it. Fun for messing around in, but I don't want to own one.

The most amazing trick GM managed to pull off with the Cobalts was to release a brand new car whose styling looked 3 years old from the second it was introduced.

After GM performance division totally rebuilt the street car into a full blown race car, it did beat some stiff competition in time attack competition as below and did pretty good in Grand Am too. http://www.gmperformancedivision.com...lt_TA_Web2.jpg |
I haven't spent a significant amonut of time in one, just a quick around-the-block, but torque steer has the potential to become extraordinarily annoying, steering doesn't feel precise enough. On the other hand, GM's Ecotec engine platform looks like it will be a reliable and sturdy base for their cars, but I'd wait a few years to make sure.

I know guy that owns one, never drivin it myself but this got balls for a small FWD car.
