Jeweled Darkness

I sparkle and shine like a newly cut and perfect gem
Emeralds for eyes
Pearls for teeth
Garnets grace my cheeks
Hair shines like spun copper

But below there is tarnish
Look closer, you will see my eyes gleam with tears
The sparkle is one of darkness
Cheeks burn in embarrassment as secrets are uncovered by your hands

Will you still feel for me when you learn
Your new, perfect ornament
is only a cheap, glass imitation?

The shine, luster, beauty is only a disguise for the ugliness lurking beneath the surface
