Has anyone here taken a creative writing course at university?
Is there anyone out there who actually chose to study creative writing at a higher education level?
I have recently applied to various universities that do this course (Hoping Lancaster will accept me), and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I might expect to gain from it in terms of furthering my skills or bringing new ones to the fore. What I am hoping to achieve is to learn how to do justice to the ideas in my head, how to fully describe everything I want to say. Any input would be valued. Thanks |
I know how bad it sucks to start a thread and not get any replies so I just wanted to let you know that I read your post, and no, I never took a creative writing course although I did take a couple of Engish courses that were writing intensive. I would think that you can expect to write a lot about different, sometimes random, subjects. Your professors will want to really explore your creative abilities and will come up with different exercises to build your thinking and writing skills. It will probably be like the writing olympics, a little bit of everything. That's kind of what my courses were like anyway.

yeah...took the intro creative writing class. it's going to really depend on your classmates and the prof.
one of the things i got caught up on is that everything was graded. and i hate people telling me my work isn't good...a vice i suppose. but the best part of the course is the discipline of writing a lot and on a regular schedule. try to pick a course that has good peer-review and workshopping, too. |
