The man sat on the ground, deep in meditation, when it happened. He suddenly awoke with a migraine that rocked his head, he felt as if massive boulders were pounding rapidly in his cranium…He really needed a break. He briskly walked outside, and sniffed the fresh sea air. ‘What a land to live in’ was his first thought, and then he turned back. Filled with satisfaction, he waltzed back inside, feeling his hopes heightening...
For many weeks the man had taken a journey within his mind, the end result, to be able to project objects into other people’s minds. If it works, he would be able to end all his problems in life! Money, influence, looks, nothing would be a problem anymore, because he would be able to reach into their minds. But what he received was much more. For the first time in many years he walked onto the mainland, the new shores of Manhattan, he hadn’t travelled here in over 1000 years. The once lovely shores, had become a rotten trash-land. Wrinkling his nose in disgust, he moved on. At first, he couldn’t understand why were people so obnoxious? He observed, and pitied, but after having 3 of his golden rings, and his amphoric photographical recorder stolen, his pity hastily transformed into fury. Then all hell broke loose… He walked into the middle of the park. He called out ‘All those who shall be spared are the innocents of this world’ .. People ignored him, except for the occasional insult. ‘Get a life.’ ‘Hobo.’ ‘Here’s a nickel, go get yourself some booze!’ Although not knowing what exactly they meant, he could feel the rage and pure annoyance in their hearts. He mumbled… ‘Zeiben io barbian quito’ Muffled cries came from the few people who were around him. Newcomers looked at them in horror. ‘What did you do?’ ‘He’s a freak!’ A female scream filled the air ‘Ahhh!!!! ’ He had sown their lips together. At closer inspection later at the morgue, it would reveal that they were to die of starvation and that a plant-animal-tapeworm hybrid had germinated from an egg inside their mouths to feed on the rich nutrients of the lips. Needless to say, they had never before seen anything like it. Back to Renelant Park, he was now the attention of the whole park. Police officers with stun-guns and batons had now come up to him. ‘Put your weapon down!’ they shouted. That amused him. Slowly he touched his toes, and then simply removed his hands with a shake of his wrists. From those detached hands popped a worm. All around were nauseated. Several members of the crowd ran, even 2 of the officers, but that was not the end of it. ‘Sir, please put your arms up, and keep them up.’ said the revolted but loyal officers. ‘’Honestly H’officer, h’if I wanted to attack you, would h’I have done this?’ He rasped with a strong accent. Then the hands moved, they scuttled like crabs outside their shells. While the attention was away from him, he muttered another curse ‘hesz neben ala vicken kimning ZAH!’. The hands scuttled together and formed a blue energy ball and released it. It was like an atom bomb, a huge ball of energy surrounded the area. People flew everywhere. Cars were upturned. Buildings destroyed, even street lights bent. Strangely enough, only things that had been created by humans were destroyed. The man without sin walked on… He walked through the streets, where gardens had been upturned; animals now prowled the streets, feeding on the flesh of the dead. The man showed no emotion, and if you searched his heart, you would have found amusement and wonder. He thought to himself, he sat on the ground and started to meditate, as if trying to hypnotize himself. Suddenly the earth came into view as a clear and untouched planet. His mind surfed around the world, looking for human life, not one to be found. He saw the elements destroying, recycling. Waves enveloping cities, fire destroying the crops, ice crippling metal structures, wind pushing over the monuments. Suddenly he came to a conclusion. He had empowered nature, and nature wanted humans out. Suddenly, for the first time in his inhumanly long life, he felt fear. Although he had never heard of it, or felt it before, there was no mistaking fear. He walked quietly down the now desiccated street. Something his sire had once said was reverberating around his skull, it went ‘Nature is a beautiful thing, my lad. All these luscious oaks shall be made into bronze and iron, my lad. But of anything you can do, nature will never be defeated.’ He thought to himself that those words are as true as they had ever been. And then the danger really began. A faint rumble resounded across the air. He stopped. There was a faint crack in the tarmac. Expecting something more he moved on. Again he heard a rumble and thought nothing of it. A tremor mounted under his feet. His eyes widened in shock, he realized what was happening, and quietly cursed himself for his foolhardiness. He swept up his cloak and ran. Running down the concrete path, a spindly crack raced after him as if to cry out in laughter. As he took one step, the crack slithered up behind him. Like a snake, it was as close as a shadow. Fear flooded his brain, and it overwhelmed his powers, his senses, and his common sense, and he had no hope now. He ran and ran until he came to a fence. He stopped, and turned back, and panicked. There was silence there and nothing more. Then he heard it, and he saw it, and muttered a command ‘Hazup Kasetti…” The crack glided and confronted him. “…vehb zet nahenz” . Now the crack had widened enough to swallow him whole. A green aura surrounded him, as if he was absorbing power from the ground. Then it happened, before his eyes could move, before he could inhale, before his heart could beat one more beat, before his mind could realize it, and before a reflex could save him. It enveloped him. There was once a man that had survived through many ages. Who had lived to one thousand, three hundred and ninety four. He was the strongest, wisest, most intelligent human that had ever lived, or was to live. The last one of his destructive race. |
