The Dream of One
 

To the girl with a backpack
Full of dreams scratched on paper

We were alone
...apart and together
A fantasy of oneness making
One other, one never

Ignorant of love
...and weary of pleasure
Empty of reason
Save you for my treasure

To be like your soul
...my love does not
Penetrate, inside you now
Forever burning hot

Still for a moment
...the world did stop
And unite us in truth
...hands clasped together
...eyes blinding light within light
......tongues speaking together one name
......hearts beating one soul into veins
......pregnant with the flame of our desire
for silence

Unknowing and unwise
...did we
Fail to consummate
Our love, only to be swept away
In time for one, forever

Our union knew not
...how two became two
How I was I, and you were too

The singularity of pleasure
...past and passed on

Did I dream you up
...on some lonely night?
The consequence of so many beers?

Must I dream still?

Bitterness in deed,
...I forsake
The memory festering in need
Skin like leather, built to tether
Me your proud steed
To ride as you please

I know our oneness was one
...moment without reason
To be with you still
Soured by purpose

The fouler dream still
...our oneness did end
But then did we find
A twoness within

Learning of love
...Embracing our pleasure
Full without reason
Two other, two never
...Needing no treasure

These dreams that I must
...bundle my faith
In a packet to send
Off into never, believing forever

This is my first (and perhaps only) serious attempt to write something like this. I was just feeling really strongly tonight, and it had to be expressed. Any and all comments appreciated.

Sorry for the formatting, but I could not figure out for the life of me how to put spaces at the beginning of a line. The ellipses are an unintentional consequences of this.
