As I sit in the sand,
Holding my gun,
This isn't what I expected,
It hasn't been fun.

Watching my mates,
Dropping like flies,
What they were,
Was the best of guys.

Hearing the sergeants roar,
Fill the air,
His orders are clear,
But are they fair?

We all know we're losing,
Losing this fight,
But we'll strive on,
For that is our plight.

Standing up in the bunker,
I ready my gun,
Shaking so slightly,
Prepared to run.

With fear burning brightly,
Within our eyes,
We run into the field,
Prepared to die.

Bullets flying wildly,
Through the air,
All run on forward,
Without a care.

Easy targets are we,
Out on the sand,
Not even a slight chance,
Do we stand.

As I glance left and right,
I see my friends die,
Craving and hoping,
I wish it's all a lie

The final thing I know,
There's a bullet in my chest,
Falling on my knees,
I lay down to rest.

It's a hopeless game,
This act called war,
No one wins,
And it's full of gore,

Heroes are made,
Heroes are lost,
All over an argument,
Which OUR lives it does cost!
