I Quit! and moving on...

I quit my job today after about a year. I quit because I got an interview. I have not been hired yet. Needless to say I am doing a bit of gambling. I hated my previous job (as an insurance agent) but want to continue on in sales. If anyone is interested I hated my job for the same reasons that people hate insurance agents. They are looked at as shysters and I was tired of being that guy.

So does anyone have experience in software sales? It looks like my resume is kinda geared towards that. My background is in Engineering, Math, Teaching and Sales (2 Years general sales exp). I have a few questions regarding the lingo of the business.

I don't have any advice, but I think it's awesome you're moving away from doing something you hate just because it makes money. I bet you'll be much happier with your new job and so good luck and best wishes

It's the constant negativity that I couldn't stand. The managers there were trying to sell the job on a bunch of factors but the issues that I had with the way they managed and the costs of doing business there were enough to push me over the edge more than once.

That's awesome, after all, there's really no point in working at a job that you don't like.

Also, for the job you're interviewing in, be sure to do some research as to what the company makes or sells and that way you can go into the interview with some knowledge of the products that you may (hopefully will) be working with.

While I wouldn't have moved on (even from a shitty job) until I got a new one, I gotta respect the balls it takes to do that.

Good luck finding what you seek.

A good friend of mine is an underwriter and has millions of stories regarding the agents. It is amazing what many will try to pull to get a policy written. Thank God the underwriters are there as a block to their crap. One must be an agent in one of the direct firms (Progressive, State Farm, Geico, etc.) in order to avoid the label. That doesn't mean that some of those agents aren't shady, it just means that most people never think of them as that. Whereas the Rocko-Cracko agency is always going to get the label, no matter how ethical you behave personally.
