Went to the dentist...
I had to go the the dentist monday to get some cavities filled. I had cavities on both sides of my mouth. Well after the novicane wore off my upper left lip hurt like hell and tasted like blood. I noticed there was a thin layer of white stuff on that side of the lip (the other side did not have this problem). At first I assumed it must be something left over from the numbing agent. Today the pain was really bad so I went and took a closer look and pealed away the white layer. Then I realized what the white layer was, it was the outer layer of the inner skin in the lip. Is this a natural reaction or did they leave some sort of acid in my mouth that is eating at the skin? Tomorrow i'm thinking about going in and talk to them and see what they think it is. Is this something common? Do I need to seek care or will it heal on its own?

They might of given zombie shots by mistake, in which case you should be developing a taste for raw human flesh.
Seems pretty normal actually. My mouthwash leaves this kind of white film in my mouth all the time. Where's ustwo when we need him? |
I would guess that you bit your lip and didn't notice because of the anesthetic. I had a similar experience when I had my last oral surgery and I'm pretty sure the would was self-inflicted. While it certainly is possible that they screwed up and cut you, I wouldn't necessarily jump to that conclusion...

This couldn't have been a biting, it is all the way up from where the lip meets the gum down to about a centimeter above the lip area. Sorry if i was vague in describing it. The area is probably about the size of a silver dollar. And the skin is just peeling away from it.

actually i was thinking last night and i realized something that it might be. After I got back i went to bed to let the numbness go away. Well I woke up a couple hours later and all but my left side was no longer numb and I was hungry. So I cooked some jalopeno poppers. I think i may have put some piping hot cheese up there and not noticed it was hot and burnt that part of my mouth.
I'll let it heal for a few days and see what happens. |
I would definitely go back to the DDS and ask him what it is. Sheesh! Never mind. I just read your last post. You burnt your inner lip skin from the hot peppers. That makes the most sense.
