How are you being screwed over right now?

So who's screwing you lately? And how? Name a current instance!

My older sister still owes me $800 for repeatedly covering her rent & helping her make her demo CD's. I didn't even count FEEDING her...
I've moved out over a year ago, and she still swears she'll pay it back, even though she has negative capacity to do so - She's renting a pad that's far beyond her means. She mysteriously has more stuff every time I see her.....

DEI37 10-11-2005 05:13 PM

For me...not getting comission on parts sales. Most other dealerships offer that to their parts sales guys. My boss gets it, unsure of the other coworker. I don't. Even 1.5% of gross would get me $1500/mnth.

Carno 10-11-2005 07:10 PM

My school is screwing me right now. I paid nearly $5000 for a god damn flight course and I still haven't started it yet :|

ngdawg 10-11-2005 07:13 PM

Five years ago, I lent $850. This past spring, I had to bring her to court to make her pay-we agreed on $50 a month and now she's 2 months behind(for the second time), meaning I have to go back to court and file a lien. It's a major pain in the ass, but she has never ever kept a promise and I thought that by signing a court agreement she would...

I was assigned a 'project' that is waaaay out of my league.

I've been put in charge of updating the catalog of reference books (and subsequently all the other collections in the library), which has become quite a hassle. I'm not familiar with the software, which means I'm learning as I go, which means once a vast chunk of the project is 'done' I learn some neat new trick and have to go back and update what's already been 'finished.' Second, the list of acronyms is huuuge. It's gotten so bad, I've had to make a little cheat sheet off to the side just keep the damn things straight and to be perfectly honest, I still have no idea what half of them really mean. Third, I have no time to work on it, at least, not in sizeable chunks as I have other duties to discharge. So, I don't get to spend a lot of time at my desk in the back, which is the only place where I'm 'allowed' to work on it. So, it's slow going, which isn't really what the boss-lady wants to hear.

The thing that really irks me about the whole thing is that I'm not even supposed to be working on it. This is the a job for the gal who manages the catalogue. A gal who makes considerably more than me and seems to have nothing but free time on her hands.

My society forces me to waste time in a setting where my spirit is broken and my soul is destroyed in an attempt to assimilate me into the machine. A battle for my mind is waged on a daily basis and I am losing the faith to continue.

Wait until you have to start paying back those student loans.

My brother is a year younger than me, didn't go to college and now makes more than me before I subtract the loan payments.

frogza 10-12-2005 11:14 AM

I get paid a salary based on a 40 hour work week, but I put in over 60 every week.

Poppinjay 10-12-2005 11:18 AM

I feel screwed over by a potential employer.

I just found out I was passed over for a job for a person with 9 years LESS experience.

florida0214 10-12-2005 11:18 AM

Wow How Am I getting screwed; let me count the ways: I bought an NES on Ebay one month ago and still haven't gotten the damn thing. My mother wants me to pay for her to come out and see her Granddaughter. I am getting an inspection that I am not ready for even a little bit. There are so much more, but why burden you folks with my petty bickering and venting. Hope everybody else has good luck with their bad luck. PS I probably make more than you and I have never stepped into a classroom Master Shake.

Cynthetiq 10-12-2005 11:38 AM

someone i contracted work to is now no longer completing the job. partial payment has been made and little to no work has been done. I'm trying to collect some of the the money if not all of it back.

NoSoup 10-12-2005 01:05 PM

Ha, where to begin.

Well, I suppose - my current roomates.

So many people told me not to rent to friends, but I didn't listen.

Currently, I have two friends renting half of a duplex I own, and they haven't more than 1 months full rent. They moved in in April...

I would feel terrible kicking them out - but it's going to come to that pretty soon. It is just difficult because I'm not currently having any money issues, and they are stuggling along.

However, I realize that it is long past the point of being a friend - I know that they are outright taking advantage of me. Although this may seem terrible, the reason I allowed it to happen so long as it did, and now am likely going to do something about it, is because they are getting near the limit of what I could potentially sue for (if it were to come to that) in small claims court....

Thorny 10-12-2005 06:28 PM

I've worked hard and built up a previousl weak program that's now getting statewide accolades. I was promised a raise this spring...then promised it would happen when the consultants "fixed" everyone's job descriptions and wages this summer.

I'm now "fixed" at my current salary for the next two years, minimum.

fresnelly 10-12-2005 07:15 PM

Last month we made some significant reductions to our cell/internet/cable plan in order to save money. This month's bill comes in and shows that none of the changes went through! Customer service was very apologetic and has promised to credit us the difference etc..., but I'm doubtful. I think they're dragging their feet, playing the odds that we'll forget about it. Fat chance!

Since when did procrastination and obfuscation become legitimate means of doing business?

joemc91 10-12-2005 07:32 PM

My union voted down a "not very good" contract that would have fixed a huge feud between management and the union. Granted management shouldn't have done what it did, but considering the state of the industry, we shouldn't be complaining too much. Now I'm looking at getting laid off soon. Wonderful.

Konichiwaneko 10-12-2005 11:40 PM

Best Buy let some white guy in Detroit use my credit card in the leiu of $2300 recently and let him pass with my Asian Name on the account, they didn't ask for ID.

Now they say "Screw you" and won't do anything about it, up and including giving and possible surveilence tapes or records that can lead to the arrest of this criminal.

Fortunately, American Express (my favorite company ever, even before this incident, immediately refunded the money without question and is filing all possible criminal charges against this person)

Poppinjay 10-13-2005 06:28 AM

Best Buy Sucks.

An update:

So this month's bill came and the changes had gone through, but there was a $200 "Term downgrade fee" added on! Now originally, I had cancelled my phone and paid a $160 cancellation fee. Shortly thereafter Rogers came crawling to me and offered a bargain rate so I signed up. The $160 was credited to my new plan and I was feeling victorious; until this new bill came.

So where is the "term downgrade" you might ask? They couldn't tell me either and took it off my bill without argument. I believe they have a team of account analysts who regularily tack on these phantom charges. The count on you to either miss or blindly accept them. To me this is an unethical means of helping their bottom line; akin to bilking seniors out of their retirement savings.

I have my fine toothed comb at the ready and await next month's bill

A bit melodramatic. Not only that, but post-secondary isn't required in any sense of the word. I'm assuming you're out of highschool by now.

soma 10-16-2005 07:40 AM

Each time I get interested in a girl, another guy pops into the picture and I always am on the losing end. I'm gaining more experience and a tougher skin as a result, but damn. I hate this.

I'm being screwed by not getting screwed.

hrandani 10-16-2005 09:31 PM

I admit I am well past the point of melodramatic and no, it is not strictly necessary.

As a white male in America I will never starve.

But the type of life and job security I would like to have in the future requires it.

Does this mean that everyone without a college degree is less successful than I will be?

No. But it does mean that I do not have the willpower and ability to do what they have done / will do.

monkeysugar 10-16-2005 11:18 PM

At work, I'm scheduled to work for 15 of the next 16 days. Some are short shifts, so the way it works out I'll not be getting any overtime.

aintyoboyfriend 10-17-2005 10:15 AM

Work is screwing me over, in a bad way.

I currently am doing 2.5 jobs for the price of one, and since the one they ARE paying me for is comission based, my pay is suffering due to all of my other obligations here.

I'm planning on making a quick exit soon, possibly even if things change.

I'm going to assume you use Rogers for said services? Because I have the same problems all the time. Somehow, i've been using "premium services" that i've never heard of....

You really gotta check those bills every month. It's ridiculous how they just keep adding random things to bills in hopes that you don't catch it.

SantasLilHelper 10-17-2005 06:35 PM

Hmm...there are some clear cut candidates for the naughty list in this thread! *making a few notes*

jRuntlets 10-17-2005 10:12 PM

Algebra is currently screwing me, and has been for years. I hate it.

MageB420666 10-18-2005 12:01 AM

I currently got screwed for about $180.

Was going to go on a trip to Daytona Beach over Fall Break with some friends of mine. All my friends bailed out on the trip, at the last moment. I got stuck with the hotel cancellation fee.

Also got screwed over by my ex-girlfriend. She was my girlfriend up until 2 months and 4 days ago. Then she left me, we had been together for 3 years, 2 months, and 26 days. She apparently hadn't been in love with me for the last year of the relationship. Lied to me about it the entire time, gave me no clues. So she got a year's worth of being chauffeured all over the place and receiving some very nice gifts. Not to mention me bending over backwards to do stuff for her.

serlindsipity 10-22-2005 09:34 AM

i could get screwed into leaving my school all becuase my school is elitist.

I need a specific degree - bachelors in fine arts, and im applying for my second time for it. i need it becuase the degree i'd get otherwise - bachelors of studio arts - isnt enough to ge tme into grad school. i have a potentially great lead into getting into grad school, but not without that sheet of paper.

so if thye deny me, i have to transfer, move to another city and leave everything behind. damnit.

Bought this dark chocolate covered caramels at the store that looked soooo good, yet when I got them home they tasted like cacoa covered cardboard. I felt...betrayed.

Bwahahaha! That's what you get for not buying See's Candies.

See's would never do that to you.

Yeah, I was a See's counter girl, long ago. And dark chocolate is my Favorite!

Mantus 10-25-2005 09:35 PM

A client just asked me to "fix" the deck I built for her because some schmo told her there could be a problem with it - which is god damn bullshit cuz if I don't agree I might loose out on three other probjects she has lined up for me...

*raises eyebrow* and where can one find this See's candies. You've aroused my curiosity...

I've had to move out of another room in my house because the landlord assumed it would be free and promised it to the new tenant, even though there is nothing in the contract to say anyone will have any specific room and we all pay the same rent. I have now had to pack up and move all my things out of two different reasonable sized rooms and back into the smallest room twice- in other words, moved all my things four times since the start of September.

I was supposed to receive a parcel on Friday. I just missed the post, but immediately phoned the delivery office to arrange to pick it up by Local Collect the next day. I phoned all Friday- it rang and rang, and no one answered the phone. Same thing happened Saturday and Monday. On Monday I then went to the post office to see if they could help. They told me to complain. The complaints department sent a message to the delivery office asking them to send my item by Local Collect. It didn't arrive Tuesday. I phoned up the post office on Wednesday and they still hadn't received it. I phoned the complaints department again. They took all my details and promised to track it for me. They found out it was marked as being sent to the PO on Wednesday, so I walked all the way to the PO again. It still wasn't there. I have now spent five working days trying to get in touch with the delivery office, made two official complaints, walked over half an hour to the PO three times, been told by several PO staff that the office is absolutely useless and often takes three weeks to send an item by a Local Collect service that's supposed to be there the next day. I've paid over £10 for the delivery service too.

They're big, man. Big. Not as spendy as Godiva's, better than Hershey's or anything commonly found in a grocery store.

C'mon. Give the dark chocolate a try...everybody's doing it.

serlindsipity 10-27-2005 03:47 PM

My school screwed me. they denied my application today. Screw them, they dont deserve my money. Ill just finish and go to grad school and they can eat it.

Its hard to care about soemthing that doesnt care about you.

Blaise,
What does your lease say?
Does it specify that you are renting A room, or are you and your current roomates splitting a lease evenly?
Or are you mad because your landlord is renting out the bigger room and making you take the smaller?
You said it doesn't specify which room, right?
Then don't move. He cannot make you, its just a matter of how much guts you have, versus his fascisimo.
And if you and your roomates are splitting a lease evenly, tell your landlord to go take a hike. (No room at the inn!)

Also,
I am not getting screwed over by anyone. You know why?
Because whenever someone tries, i tell them 'no way jose'.
And if that doesn't work, i put a foot in thier ass, instead of complaining about it to strangers.

The company I work for is screwing me right now. Every year the cost of the health insurance and the deductibles go up, and the network shrinks and the amounts covered go down. However, I am thankful I have health insurance!
