What type of pimples is accutane for?

I have small pimples, they don't fester into gigantic sores or anything, they are just small, bright red blemishes. They are especially bad on my forehead. I have noticed that the ones on my forehead can become extremely irritated/become really bumpy/turn into real pimples if I scratch it. Its kind of bad, because no matter what I wash with they're always there, and they stand out pretty well against my skin color. Also, I have noticed that right after a shower/washing my face, the ones on my forehead become extremely red and stand out, but then turn a more natural color after about 10-15 minutes.

Guys, think about the pimples you may have on your upper arms... they just make the skin kind of ruff and can turn into small pimples.

I'm wondering if accutane would help this? I've tried washing, cutting out sugars/alcohol...

Oh, I have large pores/an oily face

Accutane is the absolute last solution that you want to use for acne. There are a lot of side effects and is usualyl only used for severe acne.

Depending on how old you are, myself I am 19 and I use Differin. I would ask your dermatologist about that instead. The nice thing about Differin (http://www.differin.com/teens/index.shtml) is that it is a topical cream so you can localize where you put it. Accutane is a pill and can severely dry out your skin/scalp all over your body. I would try the Differin and see how that goes for about 3 weeks and if using that does not clear anything up, Accutane might be your last resort.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I use a combination of Differin and Duac Gel. I have found that Duac Gel is not very good alone but in combination with Differin it can be effective.

Very good advice!

I used Accutane back when it first came out. I now regret using it. It has way too many side effects to make it worth the trouble and I now have permanent medical side effects caused by it.

Your current situation does not meet the criteria for using Accutane and if it is suggested, find a new doctor.

Please read this document from the FDA regarding Accutane, especially the section titled, "What Are The Risks". I think you will find that this is not something you want to use.

In addition to soccerchamp's idea, there is also a product called RetinA which also has good results.

My husbands cousin used Proactiv with great success. His wife uses it as well and the difference is tremendous. http://www.proactiv.com

It's worth looking into.
