Odd Bruises after surgery
Just wondering if anyone here has had an experience like this. I see the Dr tomarrow and intend to inquire as to 'his' reasons for this result.
Last week Thurs I had a tubal ligation. AFTER I got home and the drugs they'd given me wore off, about two hours later, I had severe pain in my hips. None of the discharge papers mentioned any possible hip pain as a side effect. The pain, WITH my medication (10mg codine, 700 mg tylenol, 800 mg Ibuprophen) was still at a level of 8 or so. This lasted for about 6 hours before it began to subside. The first day or so after surgery my hips were popping as if they were gonna slip out of joint on me. They have felt very bruised and sore. Yesterday the bruises around the incisions began to appear which I expected. What I did not expect to find is a band of bruise from the front of my hip bone around to the chubbiest part of my butt cheek. It's yellowish with small areas that are slightly purple and green. When the nurse called the day after my surgery I asked her about my hip pain. She said it was probably because they had my feet strapped up in stirrups. Ok - I can understand maybe a little discomfort from having my feet up in stirrups. Though I still question why that position was necessary but I will get that answer tomarrow. What does concern me is this bruising and the extreme pain in my hips. Especially since there was no mention of it anywhere or by anyone (I checked with hubby to make sure I hadn't missed it in pre-surgery prep.) So Why would I have such bruising? (yes I know we're not Dr's but anecdotal stories are welcome too.) Why wouldn't they mention this? Why would the pain have been so intense? Should I be suspicious? It's disconcerting to have this especially since no one mentioned it and it was so intense and long lasting. It's upsetting enough that I was put under let alone they did something that caused me this pain. I was told by everyone that this is a relatively simple procedure with only mild pain. Instead I was writhing in pain for a good 6 hours. I still cannot sit comfortably for more than a few minutes.

Ok this was either boring or outside of peoples experience here.
Saw the Dr today - He said that the bruising on my hip combined with the pain I felt was most likely from internal bleeding. He said that they had to cut through 4 layers and they stitch everything closed so that it does not bleed externally but sometimes, if a blood vessel was cut on the way in that it will continue to bleed internally after the incision is closed. The bruising on one hip was likely because the blood will flow to the lowest point and pool - then a bruise forms. I guess I was a lucky girl. The bruise is even fading already.
