Would You Use a Love Potion?
 

Standard fare in the world of fantasy: a potion that will make the object of your desire fall in love with you. Fiona and Shrek dodge the effects of one such brew in Shrek 2. Tate Donovan and Sandra Bullock face a similar experiment in the execrable Love Potion No. 9, presumably drawn from the song.

So now it's your turn. You've just run into Madame Ruth. Do you end up kissing a cop down at 34th & Vine? Do you sneak a drop into Lindsay Lohan's champagne cocktail, or Brad Pitt's mimosa? Or do you nobly resist the temptation?

While most people fall in love initially based on artifical things, real love may develop from it, it might not, but it takes work.

I wouldn't want magic used to get someone to fall in love with me, because what happens when the magic fades, you've got two people who shouldn't be together and it's an ugly trip to divorce court.

Nah- not me. To me, the most important aspect of the relationship is the acceptance and approval I get from her. It would just taint it. I guess it would be like hiring a prostitute... for love instead of just sex.

Many years ago, I would have said yes. After falling in love, then developing the love that I have with my wife, I definately say no. Love is not love using magic, or trapping someone that doesn't want to be there. Only deep love is the best, puppy is okay for the short haul, but once that wears off, that's when you develope a deeper lover, or split apart.

i would not be able to do it, because i'd know it wasn't real deep down.

I'd consider it a form of force, and I would never want anyone to be or feel forced to be with me. The fact that she would choose to be with me is what I'm looking for.

that's a tough question. on the one hand, it would be nice to know that you can fall in love with any woman you want....but on the other, it was a "forced" love.....damn, i don't know, but if i have to answer i would probably say yes.

disclaimer for answer: my girl of a year and half left me at the beginning of summer so i'm lonely. i loved her.

Love is only beautiful if it is 'received'... it is never something that should be 'drawn' out or 'extracted' from someone.

The other problem I have with it is that you would be imposing your will on another... that is a big no-no in my books.

I would destroy it on principle. Such a thing should not be allowed to exist.

I'd give it to a female squirrel and watch her mack on a boy squirrel.

Oh wait, That happened in a Disney movie. But real squirrels are funnier.

no. however, i wouldn't mind a "instantly want to have hot hot sex for the night" potion. "nods"

I think you'd always be thinking "do they really love me or is it all just fake?" and I think that would just be too stressful and make you all insecure. I mean, I'm sure at first it would be cool, but in the long run you want someone who loves you for you.

who says that they wouldn't? sometimes people need a swift "kick in the rear" to get themselves in gear. this could be one of those chance meetings that come up. like you bumped into your future spouse, only this way it would be in the form of a potion. who knows.

Honestly, I'd probably just give it to my wife. I know she already loves me, but that's all I need.

No, I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't mind the "temp sex potion" though...

+1 for love should be real, but a sex potion would be quite nice. :D

no way in hell would I use it. There's too much that could go wrong. Didn't you guys watch The Craft (spells, potions, same diff in my book). Other than that it would just take all the fun out of it. The chase is the best part. If I could just say here drink this.. umm no that wouldn't be fun..

Ditto on the sex potion. Actually no. I just changed my mind. Because I just realized they do already have the sex potion. It's called a date rape pill. I hope I could get laid easier than that.

There are several sex potions not just the "date rape pill"

I'd use it to get a pay rise from my boss, or do well in a job interview, but not to get a partner. ;)

Its called me, baby. I am burdened with the rare ability to make all people around me to love and worship me. You guys on TFP are lucky this is only an online thing, because if I was to show up at a meet like the Rochester one, it would be game over.

As a weird side-effect, it also makes me incredibly satirical and humble. Go figure. :hmm:

I'd accept the potion and probably store it somewhere. My wife and I already love each other so I wouldn't need to use it but a bottled working love potion is pretty powerful magic and quite valuable I should think. I don't think I could refuse accepting it and storing it in some secure space. Of course that's sort of like storing a live grenade in your house but still, If its free I doubt I could say no. Perhaps I could make my worst enemy fall in love with a monkey......(he then laughs maniacally)

Yes. Granted, I'd check the side effects and all, but generaly I'd say yes.
