spitting habit/problem?
 

Hi,
Ive noticed that I tend to spit a lot when i am outdoors. I do also spit when im indoor.. just not as much. On average i would spit about every 20 to 25 seconds when im outside. I think i might have picked this up while playing outdoor sports(baseball). Now the question is.... is this bad for me???.. how should i reduce the spitting??... or should i go talk to my doctor about it. Also, this habit was started about 5-6 years ago... but just recently(last 2-3 months) the amount of saliva i spit has gone up....

I can't think of anything bad that could happen either than:
a) If you're not drinking enough water you can get dehydrated easily,
b) You might get severely chapped lips.
c) If you spit in someone's house accidentally, I'm sure if you have any decency it will be an embarassing moment for you.
d) Spitting in the street is illegal, or at least in California.

I used to spit a ton when I was younger, but then I got fed up with it (realized it was nasty and nobody wants to step in spit) so I just made myself stop. Now I hardly ever spit, even if I'm out running and feel the need to I just don't. Plus, I figure that's water I'd be better off retaining.

Only when I'm outside smoking a cigarette. I always seem to spit then. When I'm indoors I never spit. I think its just out of habit. It is gross and I should stop.

well.... thats the problem here too.. its not appropiate to spit when im with older people... among my friends its ok cuse they spit too...

soooo.... the only suggestion is too focus mentally to stop spitting????

stop the spitting! when i play footbag "hackysack", i fucking hate when it falls in a spit puddle!

Force yourself to stop, if you cannot do it just that way, then make a rule spit once give $1 to charitey. Trust me once money is involved, your self-control will follow.

Its not bad for you, but if you spit on someones shoe you may get your ass kicked. When I'm around friends that smoke they usually spit and I fall into the habit as well, for seeming no reason. I dont even think about it. I have to ask myself what the hell I'm doing and the urge to spit goes away.

I have this weird habit of spitting into the toilet before I use it.. It's so weird and I don't know how I picked it up.. I do it without even thinking....

I HAVE A WEIRD MENTAL PROBLEM OK.... SO MY PROB IS DAT I HAVE 2 SPIT WHENEVER I IMAGINE SOMEONE THAT I HATE, IF I DON'T I BELIEVE I AM GOING TO BECOME LIKE THEM AND THEN AFTER SPITTING I HAVE 2 IMAGINE ANOTHER PERSON FACE IN MY MIND THAT I DON'T HATE TO MAKE IT EQUAL. AND I HAVE TO KEEP DOING DIS UNTIL I IMAGINE THERE FACE PERFECTLY IN MY MIND IF I FAIL TO.. I HAVE TO SPIT AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTIL THERE FACE IS IN MY MIND PERFECTLY... THIS PROBLEM IS VERY IRRITATING HELP ME HOW TO GET OVER IT PLZ HELP ME I HAD DIS PROBLEM FOR LIKE 2 YEARS. I CANNOT CONTROL IMAGINING FACES OF THE PEOPLE THAT I HATE THEY JUST COME IN MY MIND SUDDENLY. HELP! :sad:
