adding more weight differently
ok, this has kinda been answered.
but, i want to know how to gain more weight as in proteins other than meats and lentils. what other products are good. like everyday household items. i make alot of peanut butter sandwiches with milk. alot. what else would be suitable for this diet? |
Just a cautionary note, but eating a lot of peanut butter isn't good for you, and especially the typical commercial stuff like Jiff. It contains a lot of high fructose corn syrup and sometimes trans fats in the form of hydrogenated oils, which just happen to be one molecule away from plastic. All peanut butter contains a huge amount of peanut oil which is why your intake should be moderate. In fact, everything should be done inmoderation!! And hopeuflly you are drinking skim milk!
The best peanut butter to use is the natural (and even organic) stuff. Just stir it up real well the first time you open it and then store it in the frig so it will stay mixed. Rather than include a bunch of crap here, I've noted a few pretty good links. This might not hit the spot - but I remember a book 'diet for a small planet' (or similar title, a vege book) discussed complementary proteins lots.
One that I did remember was that peanut butter is meant to have complimentary proteins to wholemeal bread. To be honest, most of that stuff is partly discredited now I think - and I'm no longer a vegie. But.... I still have my peanut butter with wholemeal. Partly out of superstition and partly out of taste. |
Most other beans besides lentils will do the job. Beans and brown rice together make good proteinaceous dish. Beans _can_ be cooked to be tasty.
As for the peanut butter thing, thingstodo is correct. The only ingredient listed onyour peanut butter jar should be peanuts. The all-natural stuff has to be stirred, but frankly it's a lot tastier than Jiff and the others if you really like nuts, and goes down better. For variety, try other nut butters: almond butter (a little more expensive) and cashew butter, a lot more expensive and kind of rich, but YUM! That stuff rocks. These are available many places, but try natural food stores first, where you can even buy them in bulk. If you want to go the supplement route, whey protein mixed with milk or soy milk is a good way to go, tasty, and not all that much more expensive, by gram of protein, than the cheaper cuts of meat, or even canned tuna. Personally, one of the most popular dishes I make is a lentil stew with sausage. There really isn't much sausage in it, but after I've slow cooked everything for a couple of hours the sausage flavor runs through the lentils, the liquid, everything. Great with yogurt on top. And don't forget yogurt, another good protein source. Eat it by itself, with fruit, or as a topper on other dishes, like the lentils. |
welps, i have been drinking whole milk all of my life...now it's the switch to skin.
i knew something was wrong about my peanut butter, but i have been eating it with wheat bread. i'm also getting into chicken breasts. i've been marinating them in italian dressing and then grilling them. do you guys have any good protein recipes for them? thanks for the input. |
Try turkey instead of chicken, it's much lower in fat with the same amount of protein. Lose the italian dressing and start using olive oil which has Omega-3 fat with salt, pepper and whatever herbs and spices you like.

is it bad to have yolk with the egg white? cuz im getting lazy now. i dont like separating.

The yolk has a lot of cholesterol. They won't kill you, but if you really don't want them in your omelette and don't like separating them, you could always buy cartons of egg whites.
