Post-dental cleaning blahs

I just had my 6-month dental checkup and cleaning, and as usual, I have a serious blah feeling in my mouth. The primary issue is a strong feeling of drymouth, and drinking water doesn't get rid of it. I get this every time, and it usually affects my sleep that night.

So, before I go to sleep tonight, does anyone else get this feeling after a dental cleaning, and does anyone know how to get rid of this feeling?

Man I always feel kinda the opposite. After I get cleaned up my mouth feels clean, and fresh for a day or two. It's so awesome it's almost worth the discomfort I get in the dental chair.

If you are having dry mouth and such after cleanings I would ask the dentist if the flouride (or other chemical) might be to blame and if there is any alternative.

In the meantime, the only thing I can suggest to get a bad taste out of your mouth is another bad taste...maybe a few shots of tequila?

My mouth gets really really dry most nights. I often wake up with my teeth covered in dried blood from my gums. Its really really disgusting and morning breath that could kill a turtle.

I found that using mouthwash right before I went to sleep helped somewhat. My guns still bleed, but not as much.

gums, not guns

If your gums are bleeding you have other problems. Perhaps another dentist? They shouldn't be bleeding after a cleaning unless there is gum disease, which you should/could be treating.

If you have to wait to see the Dentist again, try swishing your mouth with a peroxide mixture. Good for the gums. And use dental floss daily.

Use a soft toothbrush. And see your dentist again.

Redlemon: no idea. sorry.

BAMF: apply some vaseline on your gums before you go to sleep. try it.

Wow, even the dentist has never heard of this. I must be crazy. Ah well, might as well enjoy it...

I would recommend against using mouthwash if you are having problems with a dry mouth. The alcohol in mouthwash only exacerbates the problem.

Bleeding gums are a problem.

If your mouth gets that dry, you may be a "mouth breather" as well. Any sinus trouble?
