cardio with no legs

I work out regularly..about 6 days a week of an hour of rollerblading or jogging for a base..and then something else later in the day...pilates, yoga, swimming..whatever I am feeling that day.
well, A few days ago, I managed to hurt myself pretty bad in a scooter accident and can't use my knee for awhile. I am having horrible work-out withdrawls..lol..and am looking for some sort of cardio that won't involve the usage of me knee.
edit: I also have limited use of my left hand and elbow currently, but that is getting better..and I am going to start swimming once the cuts and burn heal a little more.

any suggestions?

Maybe a boxing style workout? That's really all I can think of.

Masturbation? Sorry that was the first thing that came to mind.

No legs eh? Thats going to be tough. I think the best thing that I can recommend it to go for a walk everyday. If you were excercising for the health benefits this is the next best thing you can do until your knee is healed. IMO. But if you were training to your Cardiovascular health then I think you may be out of luck until your knee is completely healed. You don't want to cause any long term damage to your knee, you would regret it the rest of your life.

It sucks... I have been there with an injury that put me out of comission. I would take it easy for a while.

Hope all goes well.

There's a weird looking machine at my gym that looks like a bike for your arms, I suppose that would work, but I would feel kinda dumb actually using it I think. Might want to try the rowing machine?

The best is probably swimming. You can use pull bouys, and when you get some mobility back in your leg you can gradually ease off the bouys. Until then you probably can only lift weights, unless you want to shell out money for a wheel chair.

Some of the pilates stuff (with the big rubber ball) you can do without bending your legs so perhaps that might work?

Swimming is about the best I can think of. Some swimming pools host low-impact water aerobics, mainly for pregnant women or overweight people, or anyone who would have a difficult time doing the exercises without the support of the water. And for the next few weeks, that's you. You might do some research locally.

Maybe a rowing machine? you won't be able to get the normal range of motion since your legs will be locked out, but at least you can hit your upper back and arms.

Another thought; almost anything's cardio if done with light enough weights. The gym I go to has an assisted pull-up/dip machine. You set the weight stack to counterbalance your own weight to a greater or lesser degree. If you're moderately light, you can cancel a great propotion of your body weight. I could see an upper-body cardio routine, alternating between dips and pull-ups at light resistance, that would give you a really interesting workout with no load-bearing on either leg.

These are some good ideas. I've seen that hand bike thing at the gym but never tried it. Swimming sounds like the answer. I guess anything that will get your heart rate up would be good.

i was thinking rowing as well... but the proper form should have a slight bend in the knee... but it might be worth a try.

as others have said, swimming may be the best thing you can do. depending on how bad your knee is hurt, perhaps just walking in the pool will do you some good.

I was able to put close toed shoes on today!!!
I was so excited..lol. I walked about a mile before the toe started to hurt and my knee did alright, then I hopped in the pool for a couple spins. I am going to try my rollerblades next week when my toe is better adn see how that goes for short periods of time.
I am never doing anything wreckless again..lol..this is so annoying

sex is good cardio if you can "keep it up" long enough
