Just Had Knee Surgery-A little help?
I just had arthroscopic knee surgery 3 days ago, it doesn't really hurt that much, but when I bend it a little bit, air comes out of the incisions. It actually sounds like my knee is farting. No real pain, but disquieting to hear. Is this normal?
|
I have no idea. I just had that same exact surgery yesterday, so I'll keep you posted.
But I really hope my knees don't start farting. |
well with many orthoscopic surgeries they have to inflate the area... so they have room to work...
i would figure its relatively normal... but you should probably call the docs and ask... |
I had the minicus replaced and it didn't do that but mine hurt like a son of a bitch, those were the Doctors words.
|
when you crack your knuckles, the sound made is actually the popping of an air bubble of CO2 that forms between your bones when they pull apart.
maybe what's happening to you is the same sorta idea? |
Thanks all, I appreciate the help.

OK, now it's been a few days for me:
No farting sound. They filled the knee with fluid, not air. I'd check with the doctor ASAP, could be bad stitches or an infection or worse. Call them now, seriously. |
I didn't have stitches, just those steri-strips which I had to replace. The farting seems to have slowed a little, but swelling and pain are getting worse. I won't and haven't taken the Percocet that was prescribed, I prefer to self medicate with bourbon. Bleeding is still not an issue.
Thanks to all. |
No stitches? Dude, that's whack. I once again urge you very strongly to go back to the doctor and ask. This isn't normal to the two other people I know who have had this surgery, nor to me. Please get it checked, it could really be all kinds of seriousl.
|
yah... i would call a doc asap... seeing as the pain and swellng are getting worse... and that other people here who have had the same or similar surgeries dont have similar experiences...

Leg immobilized for a week or two? And that's reasonable? A few days then light walking. Then in the pool once the stiches, (YES stiches) are out and closed. On the bike for light spinning the week after that.
No knee farting, no steristrips, no quacks! Call a real doctor STAT. |
One more string of advice:
Pete's Wicked Ale and Percocet DO NOT mix well together...OHHHH you think they do at first and then...WHAM! Good night, Irene!! Woo-boy talk about feeling like shit, ugh! |
