Do some women like to show off at the gym?
 

I was at the gym last night and there was a woman there I'd guess in her 20's who didn't look too much like she was at the gym to strictly workout. Picture tight spandex pants, a very revealing sports bra and the chest to show it off. (Yes, I was looking but so was everybody else and it was pretty much impossible not to look) While I doing my work on the treadmill, I'm getting into the habit of observing people since I'm taking an into to psych class this semester. What I saw was at least one guy making his move but she ended up shooing him away. Other women were giving odd looks toward her way also like they were jealous or something. Now most of the time I go to the gym, women are just wearing loose sweats and a t-shirt because they're there to work not get hit on.

Do some women do it deliberately? I was just under the assumption that the majority of them don't.

Uh...yeah.

I go there to relieve stress, hopefully make my body look better and the view if any is to be had. :) Not pick up guys :p

I think every gym has a few of those. We got this hot blond 20 something "personal trainer" chick at the gym I go to that does this. Every day she comes in with these tight spandex bottoms and a cut off top.

I quit flirting with her when I noticed the ~2 ct rock on her finger...

My favorites though were the 2 hottie college girls that liked to stretch each other out every day in front of the treadmills over x-mas break.

Yeah... I love it when you can tell women JUST put on makeup before going to the gym. I just shake my head and laugh, usually ticks them off because they know exactly what I'm laughing at.

The guys too... you know who I'm talking about. The guys who work out upper body 3hrs a day, and never do any lowerbody. So they're built like a house up top, but have little chicken legs.

I see a lot of those girls that could appear to just be there just to be eye candy. However, most of them do tend to have nice bodies so I'm assuming that they got it from exercise at the gym. And sure a lot of them don't know what the hell they're doing when they're lifting but hey anything is still good for them and if they want to look hot while doing it then who am I to stop them. Plus, I don't mind having some nice scenery while I'm there working out. However, I will agree that it's pretty ridiculous when they put on make-up just to workout.

Count me in with the t-shirt and shorts crowd. There are plenty of spandex and sports bra types at the gym I go to, but they are always exercising, so I guess they do have to work to look that good in their workout gear.

I'm one of those guys. The reason being nobody sees legs, unless you're naked and in my instance, that's not as often as I’d like! :) So my leg routine is limited to heavy leg press once a week and walking 2.5k a day. I opt for walking, rather than running, because I don’t want to burn my limited gains through excessive cardio exertion.

When I was at the gym last there were a couple of girls that had on makeup and enough perfume to stop a truck. Who were's perfume to the gym?

I've noticed, but I don't think many do it on purpose. They were the 'tighter/revealing'
clothes because for them, it's just more comfortable in our incredibly warm rec center.
Of course, those ones are usually the women with the more feminine/well-shaped body
and I'm sure are less insecure about their bodies than the women who show up in just
sweats and a tee-shirt. Although, I seriously don't mind riding a stationary bike for 30
minutes while watching the back of a female in tight pants or shorts running on the
treadmill right in front of me. :)

Some of the gyms in Norway requires you to wear loose fitting, non revealing clothes.

I share your sentiments exactly. However, at my gym the stationary bikes are in front of both the treadmills and then the ellipticals. So to see anything you're forced to turnaround...like that's not noticeable.

it's a lot more complicated then that.
by working your legs, you release more testosterone throughout your entire body. if you want a biggest upper body thats possible for you, you must work your lower body.

I wear tight workout pants, and a workout top, but it's not revealing.

Ooh, those girls annoy me. The ones that will actually put on makeup and do their hair all cute like the Wellness Centre is a bar or something. They're usually the ones who have no idea how to use most of the equipment and spend most of their time there giggling and talking amongst themselves. Grrr...

God I love gym chicks. Normally I work out between 11am -12 pm weekdays during the break between my classes. But I discovered the prime time for chick watching is Fridays between 2:30-4 pm when all the communications and business classes are over. Let's just say I spend a lot of tiem on the tricept machine that's BEHIND the treadmills. :thumbsup:


This thread actually made think of a related topic. Does anyone else wear clothes that HIDES their good physique? I'll start this in another thread since I don't want to do any thread hi-jacking. :)

It sounds like you have issues... I mean, workout clothes are meant to be tight so that they don't flop all around when you work out. I think this whole "annoying girls" thing is all in your mind.

How do you know where these girls with make-up on just came from? I have never seen anyone at my gym that looks like they got all dolled up just to go to the gym. The ones who do, probably look that way all the time, not just when working out.

And what's wrong with wanting to look good? Some girls just wear skimpier clothes and more make-up than others do in general. I doubt it's "gym specific." Hairdo - Perhaps they just got off work? :confused:

You obviously don't like people who you feel want to look good...

I was told of a study once (and yes, I looked around for it a bit on the web - if anyone's interested pm me and I guess I'll look for it again tomorrow when I get to work and have more rigorous resources) that showed that women spend the majority of the their "looking time" in the gym checking out other people/guys - while most guys spent their "looking time" checking themselves out in the mirror.

When you see girls outside the gym doing touch-ups on their face as they walk in... it's not the residual make up from that day.

I have no problem with wearing tight cloths, I understand it. But makeup... come one...

The gym I go to has 'shoulders, midriff covered, shorts must reach mid-thigh'. I don't think they require loose clothing.

Not that people don't break the midriff one. Mmm, belly-buttons.

i'd wonder if this chick has large breasts to begin with, cause it's HARD to find a bra that isn't cleavage-tacular to work out in. they're made to ->squish<- those things to your chest and generally your boobs try and find a way out any way they can! i agree with the people who've said that loose clothing is a hinderance to working out- when i'm at home i work out in sports bra and undies, but at the gym i'm gonna be wearing t-shirt and yoga pants. some girls are just more secure with their bodies than others- so some feel comfy wearing tight gym stuff and some don't. the make-up and hair thing, well... it's working out, you're gonna sweat. i prefer not to sweat in make up and hairspray, but some girls again don't feel comfortable being seen in public without makeup and their hair done. i wonder what gyms would be like if they had gender specific weight rooms. i'd bet that if women knew there weren't any guys around when they were working out they'd ditch the makeup. the point of exercising is to get into better shape and maintain a level of health, and you have to sweat a little bit to do that :) i say, enjoy the view, and always wipe off the equipment after you're done :)

You can tell which ones do it on purpose.

For example, they'll wear the tight-ass pants that say "Brat" or "Flirt" RIGHT across the ass. They're the ones that are the attention whores that love it when ya look.

Sometimes they notice you looking and give you a dirty look. You should reply with a middle finger - they know what they're doing.

Who cares?
I'm certainly not going to complain about some hot body working out at the gym. I won't ogle her or anything, but I will give her a quick lookover.
Hell...for some people it may be their motivation. "I want to be in shape like her", or "I want to be in shape so I get a girl like that", or even "Fuck that bitch! She thinks she is all that...I'm gonna get in way better shape than her."

It depends on the gym. Some gyms have more of a flirty scene, a few are actual meat markets. In the one I go to, most people just dress to work out. Some of the younger women with good bodies wear halters and show more stomach than the average, but it's no more excessive than what I see on the street in this warm-weather college town.

About the perfume: perfume is activated by body heat. You're just supposed to put on a little, barely enough to smell. After a while, body heat will intensify the odor. People who don't know this, always put on too much perfume. Doubly so at the gym: the more heat and moisture you put out, the stronger your perfume's going to get.

dont care what people wear to work out dont care if make-up & hair is done ahat pisses me off is when people sit on the equipment for half an hour and TALK with their mates next to them,no exercise going on except jaw movements. I thought thats what coffee shops were for. (ALthough the gym is air conditioned and its summer here and there is free cable on telly) lol

I don't think a gym is much different than a social club. It's still a place where people gather, hang out, make new acquaintances. If guys buzz around some nice looking girl at the gym, I guess it holds true vice versa. If some girl wants to show her assets, let her be and enjoy the free show.

Annoying and Obvious
 

There are these two chicks at my gym who dress rather scantily and go back and forth by the free weights doing deep lunges. They giggle with eachother and always pause in the middle of the most open spot of the gym (best viewing area). So very annoying while I'm on the treadmill or the bikes.

They both have great bodies, yes, a hetero female who appreciates a nice female body, but come-on, being discreet isn't their strong suit.

What I hate more are these gym rats who just d**k around for hours, hogging machines and scoping the crowd. ew

I wanna go to Norway SO bad! It is so beautiful. It'll probably my only chance to see Morten Harket sing too.

At my gym, I seriously doubt there's intentional pickup action or display going on. The girls I know are there for a reason, and don't really want to swat away guys buzzing around them. There's a lot of revealing clothes, but that's just the style. I'm just happy to enjoy the view.
