penny stocks

does anyone here invest money in penny stocks? i'm wondering if this would be a good place for a novice, like myself, to spend some money to see how the market works. are there advantages and disadvantages about penny stocks? any other good tips about these? any info would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

don't do it. you won't make any money and you won't get any info on how the market works by doing it

THeir usually not the way to go...

But I'm a risk taker... the idea of turning a few hundered dollars into a few thousand is just too compelling to me.

I play with penny stocks and have made (and lost) money. In my opinion you do get an idea how the market works, but not how investing works. What I'm doing is more like gambling than investing. I recently bought a stock at .10 a share and ten days later sold it at .19 a share. A .09 increase doesn't sound like much, but if you had 5000 shares (as I did) you made $450 minus commissions. As long as you don't risk any amount you can't afford to lose, it can be a fun hobby that sometimes makes money.

Agree completely. Most penny stocks sell for pennies because they are headed to zero.

You need to decide what you're really after. Do you want to make money? Then how about paper trading some real stocks for 6months and if you're any good at it, start doing it for real. Are you really out for entertainment? Then find some other ways to have fun. Maybe even go to Vegas, and get entertained while your money disappears. At least that's what Vegas is for.
