Facial hair

This isn't that important but it just strikes my curiosity. I am 18 years old, yet I have little to no facial hair at all. I rarely have to shave at all; except every month or so. Most of it is just visible hair on my upper lip. My cheeks and chin is virtually smooth. What's up with that?

pcockren 11-19-2004 06:25 PM

consider yourself lucky that you don't have to shave everyday...

Slavakion 11-19-2004 06:30 PM

You get to save money on razors...

If you really want to grow more hair, shave every day. Even if it looks like there's nothing there, slice away. It should thicken up a little.

1slOwCD8 11-19-2004 08:13 PM

Id say that your very lucky you dont have to shave very often. I have to shave my sideburns, moustache, a goatee like every 3 days. And like Slavakion said, just shave everyday, it should come eventually.

a-j 11-19-2004 08:41 PM

I was the same way, I don't think I actually "regularly" started shaving until about 2 or 3 years after I graduated high school.

f6twister 11-19-2004 08:59 PM

I was shaving every day at 17. Now, 12 years later, I sometimes need to shave twice a day. Once in the morning and once again before work (I start work at 4pm). It is a real pain.

However, don't count your blessings yet. Just because most of your growing is done, it doesn't mean everything is in place. You could still find that 5 o'clock shadow appear on your face over the next 2-3 years.

Gatorade Frost 11-19-2004 10:43 PM

At 18 I was still very lightly growing peach fuzz on my face. It was only noticeable after a week of non-shaving, but it was nice to be able to go that long wi thout having to shave.

JSwiss 11-20-2004 06:09 AM

Thanks to being italian I have to shave just about everyday. Thankfully though I'm lazy and use my beard and moustache trimmer to shave back to a 5:00 shadow. Not having to shave for long periods of time is a very good thing.

sailor 11-20-2004 11:57 AM

Quit complaining, I wish I wasnt a hariy SOB ;) And hey, it could be worse--I shave my legs for cycling too, so I spend quite a bit of time getting familiar with my razor.

Tarl Cabot 11-20-2004 03:47 PM

I was that way too, until I was 19. Now I have hair on my back.

Oh well. If I ever need a hair transplant, I've got lots of donor sites.

LeviticusMky 11-20-2004 11:16 PM

Hairy face = sucks.

I started growing a beard in 10th grade. I had no clue what to do, so I just let it grow. I was one of a dozen kids with a full beard on Graduation day.

I WISH that I could have no hair on my face. Having a beard is acceptable, shaving everyday is NOT. I just can't take it. I usually only trim my beard once a month. Only when it gets hard to eat spaghetti.

Maybe I'm just lazy cause I've stopped cutting my hair too and now I look like a hippie. At least I shower every day.

skinnymofo 11-20-2004 11:21 PM

my facial hair is really odd
if i want to look decent i have to shahve every day but you can still see the hairs waiting to come splashing out of my face. when i try to grow it out i get masive growth (maybe a little less than a 1/4 inch) in 3 days and the hair growth just stops. and just recently my what looked like chops have no decided to come in uneven so one side is pointier next to my mouth than the other if i let it grow out :(

ibis 11-20-2004 11:55 PM

You're damn lucky. My facial hair may not grow fast, but it's thick as hell.

Hurts like crazy.

drag0nmanes 11-27-2004 05:00 PM

You're lucky? Been shaving since 9th? grade I think? Or maybe 8th. Either way just count your blessings that you dont have to shave everyday. Hell, I'm only 21 and a good shave in the morning only lasts til mid afternoon.

Ditto, I have cut my shaving to twice a week because the hair is just too thick. If I were to shave everyday, I would shred my face apart.

cybersharp 12-03-2004 01:15 AM

Yea your lucky i wish i didnt have to shave every 1-2 days.....ever sense 8-9th grade..

RogueHunter65 12-03-2004 08:17 AM

I have been shaving everyday since I turned 17 so consider yourself lucky. Shaving really irritates my skin. But I can understand your frustration...Being able to grow a badass goatee is pretty tight.

LoganSnake 12-03-2004 08:45 AM

Like many have said above me, consider yourself lucky. I am 18 year old as well, and I have to shave every single morning before going to work. The peach fuzz was gone when I turned 16 and started turning into hair stubs. I guess I owe the pelasure of shaving everyday to my dad's genes. :|

dman2 12-03-2004 10:13 AM

Don't worry my hairless one. Is your voice high pitched too? Just kidding. Like everyone else has said, consider yourself lucky. Most women don't like a hairy guy anyway. I find myself shaving my arms and trimming the hair on other various parts of my body to not have as much hair. Plus, it makes you look like you have bigger muscles if you shave your forearms.

godxzilla 12-03-2004 01:21 PM

lucky bastard!!! I get my 5:00 shadow around noon :) honestly, dont worry about it. I know guys that are virtually hairless at 28-29 years old and I consider them the lucky ones to not have to deal with it.

To the guy who said that women dont like it - you're just hanging out with the wrong women!

Shaving doesn't actually make your hair grow any faster or thicker..

what happens is when you have never shaved, you're only getting the tips of the hairs..but when you shave the first time, the hair that grows back is the roots of your hairs.or something..so they're darker and it looks like you've got more hair.

Well I guess you're right. I don't hang out with those women as I am not really all that hairy or at least I try to shave the hair that gets bushy. I wonder if these are the same women who say they don't like speedos. I think that is just about every woman

VitaminH 12-04-2004 10:35 PM

Hey I'm 22 and I've only in the past year or so started having to shave regularly, and that's like every three days. None of the males in my family have ever been very hairy so I guess I'm just following the trait.

J-DaWg 12-06-2004 11:08 AM

I remember when I was 12 and I wanted nothing more then to have facial hair .... and now it drives me insane! Consider yourself lucky that you dont have to shave every day. Clean shaven is not an option for me, when I get home from work I have a beard. Its wild!

Bobaphat 12-06-2004 12:37 PM

Thank your genetics. As mentioned above, you will likely continue to get hairier as time goes on, but count your blessings, you could be a wooly beast like me :D

Ala. blacksnake 12-13-2004 12:02 AM

Is there any way to get your hair to grow in thicker/more evenly? I have facial hair that grows fast (have to shave every day or so) but its pretty thin and patchy. Any way to fix this? Makes it hard to get good, long sideburns :\

Blackthorn 12-13-2004 07:44 PM

I had a full mustache as a sophmore in high school and a full beard as a senior. God I miss junior high :D Shaving sucks...Gillette Mach-3 is a necessary evil.

Willravel 12-13-2004 10:09 PM

Sounds like the grass is always greener... Bald guys want the hair, hairy guys want the bald. I am the unfortunate middle man. I am patchy facial hair man. My sideburns, chin, and mustache come in quite well, but everywhere else - neck, cheeks, jawline - it comes in patches. When I grow a beard I look like a half man and half teenager. You get what you get. Look to father/grandfathers (hopefully not mother/sister) for what to expect.

HeAtHeN 12-13-2004 10:15 PM

I'm 29 and only have to shave twice a week. Never complained about it and never will.

mcwoop 12-14-2004 12:42 AM

Don't worry about any kind of body hair unless you're losing pencils or chunks of food in it.
When the barber starts shaving her signature into your neck hair, then you have something to worry about. Shave your face every day for the next 6 months, then stop for a 3 or 4 day weekend when it won't matter for work or school. See where you're at. I've wanted a goatee for the longest time, and finally just decided to see what would happen. It took a month for it to look decent, but now it's long and thick enough.
Oh, start drinking whiskey or really nice scotch, I hear that helps with just about anything.

roderickpsu 12-16-2004 06:37 PM

I am 27 and only really need to shave every 4th day or so. It is kinda nice. I could never grow a full beard. It would look terrible if I tried.

ronan 12-22-2004 02:54 AM

the older you get, the more facial hair you get.

Its called growing. Shaving may provoke it a little (i think)... but it really depends on you, and your age.

I've found the age thing has more of an effect on hair elsewhere. Cursed follicles!

thecoldone33 12-22-2004 03:35 PM

Yes be happy you dont have to shave. I started having to shave at 16 about once a week. and it started to grow from there.

Billy Ocean 12-25-2004 08:19 PM

Ask your father or older brothers, it will most likely fill in later in life. I'm 30 and have to shave every other day (still not a full beard yet though).... but I was once like you.

mac03 12-29-2004 06:27 PM

Genetics. That's why some 14 year olds have full beards and some 30 year olds can't grow a mustache in a month.

At 20 I had hair on the chin and my neck. Not much on the upper lip and nothing on the sides. After a while it slowly started creeping all over.

mac03 12-29-2004 07:25 PM

...While we're on the subject of shaving... What's the best razor? Trying to find one that doesn't dull fast but doesn't butcher your face and still doesn't cost a fortune for replacement blades.
