Going to Boston

I will be going to Boston for some ongoing education for a few days next month. I will have to sit for almost 10 hours of lecture each day, so I don't know how much time I will have. Still, I want to at least get a feel for the city and I would like to see some of the Freedom Trail and have some really good seafood. I will be staying in Back Bay and will depend on public transportation or taxis. Anyone have any specific advice?

Legal Seafoods - State Street in Boston (it's not cheap, it's across the street from the aquarium, near the water, and the chowdah is fantastic)

Lansdowne street is for nightlife- lots of bars and clubs and college girls...

Boston is a great walking city- it's flat - and it's laid out pretty well

THough it's not the best time of year, head over to the boston commons and check out the swan boats (if they're still out this time of year)

Boston is a great, young city - -have a blast

Legal Seafood, as was mentioned, is awesome. Also try The Union Oyster House, Jimmy's, and The No Name. The latter two are down on the World Trade Center Pier. All are really good and a bit less expensive than Legals. If it were warmer I'd say go check out the Charles River area. Probably one of the most unique features of the city with sailing, kayaking, and rowing on it. Of course, I'm biased since I'm from there.

The T is probably your best bet for getting around. It's way cheaper than taxis, and there are stops within walking distance of pretty much anywhere you'll want to go. They sell visitor's passes that are good for one, three, or seven days, and let you get on and off as much as you want. It's a pretty good deal if you plan to travel around sightseeing.

Just visited family in Boston in September, and am going to try to make it a habit to visit once or twice a year. It is an awesome city, and the complete antithesis to southern California, where I live, which is refreshing to me. Did go to Landsdowne Street and played pool and drank at Jillians, though I wouldn't think it would pop off as much if there wasn't a Sox game that night.

I also just got back from there but I would recommend going in a day early. A coworker and myself went on a Saturday and our conference didn't start until Monday. We managed to hit everything from Ipswich to Boston. Boston was the last leg of the day's safari and we decided to replicate Dave Attell's (the Insomniac) feat of drinking the Freedom Trail. Very cool city

I am going up Saturday early, but the class starts @ 7 on Sunday and runs until 5 on Saturday. I could not get a flight out that night, so I will come back early Sunday am and head straight to a football game. I hope my flight is not late. I will have to skip one afternoon at least. That will give me a chance to see something and more importantly, keep my mind from turning to mush.

This is the freedom trail site, that lists pretty much the "must see" sites in Boston.

(Quincy market and Fanueil hall I think are pretty overrated, the Old North Church (Paul Revere and his lanterns, Bunker Hill and the COnstitution are probably the best)

If you are a baseball fan, a swing by Fenway Park is always fun for people.
