Suffering from Gout
I have just recovered from a particularly nasty acute gout attack. I've had it for years (it's hereditary), and I would love to get advice on how to stave off an attack when I feel it coming on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You really need to be seeing a Doctor. There are plenty of ways to stave off gout, and you're just suffering unnecesarily if you don't get some management help.

Thanks, Eribrav. Been there, done that. I've been to three different specialists. I've had cortical-steroid injections (3 last week alone), I've taken colchicine, allopurinol, indomethacin, Lodine, methyl-prednisone, high dose naproxen, and several others. My doctor has referred me on to a rheumatologist and a urologist and has basically thrown up her hands. She says it's the worst case she's ever seen. I watch my diet closely and have had to give up my beloved beer years ago. Someone told me that eating large amounts of cherries or cherry juice on the onset of an attack would help, but I have not tried that yet.

I drink A LOT of water when I sense a problem. Usually help shorten the duration to a day or so. Kind of like using Abreva on a cold sore - at the first tingle you can knock it out, but if you wait a day it's too late.
