Electric shavers

I dunno if this really belongs here, but I saw some other shavign threads so here goes... I'm tired of the shaving cream and razor deal and wanna try out an electric shaver. What are good ones to try out? Maybe you could provide a lil' review of sorts. Thanks!

I suggest the Shave Man. It costs $5 at your local Wal-Mart. Rechargeable batteries can be bought for $10-$15 including two batteries and a charger. It's the best electric razor I've ever used, bar-none. I've used a $100 Braun and a $40 Remington and neither one compare to this $5 wonder.

I never could use the things. Always felt like they were pulling the hair out instead of cutting it. I dont know though, maybe its just me.

Nope, it's not just you. They did the same with me, and the best part was they didn't get nearly as close as a regular razor. I'll stick with my mach3.

Yeah, if you let your hair get any longer than usual, you have to use the long-hair trimmer first until it's stubble, then use the regular part. In most electric razors, if you go too fast, it'll get clogged up like a lawnmower and try to pull your hair out (ouch). They definitely require a different technique than that of regular razors. I personally can never get a close shave with shaving cream and razors...even after I'm done there's still stubble there. Electric razors always get everything including the stubble for me!

I have a Braun electric razor, and to be quite honest, I was a little diapointed in it's performance. It does a decent job on my chin and face, but under my jaw/chin and on my neck it does a horrible job. If I'm in a hurry I'll only use that, but if I have time, I usually just shave the old fashioned way. I've only used my Braun, so I can't comment on other electric razors.

I'm enjoying my norelco coolskin electric right now... is much nice because it has that little shave lotion dispenser thingey and works wet or dry. Rinses clean and shaves as close as a blade for me :)

I have the same problem with my jaw/chin/neck area. Other then that area, it does a pretty good job if my hairs are slightly longer then usual.

I use a Panasonic. It may defeat your purpose, but I like using it with shaving cream so I don't have to worry about hair flying all over the place. The one I have uses a cross-cut blade and also two foil heads.

Edit based on post below: After using, I pop the head off and rinse it off. No cutting oils or anything. Panasonic does recommend replacing the foil every six months and blades once a year. I did do that at first but haven't at the last due dates and haven't noticed a difference.

my mom got me some lower end norelco model...
had insane maintenence instructions... brush clean after every use (did that) then disassemble blade assembly and soak in some cleaning grease every other use... didnt do that...
the blades have gotten all dull and crummy so it pulls hair now... i normally just use the trimmer all over and just be stubly... if i want a smooth shave i'll use the mach 3...

but i think i might give that shaveman lasereth mentioned a try... its just $5

For a while now I have used the Braun (don't remember the model number) that works with the self cleaning unit and it gives me a decent shave. When I first bought it I remember reading somewhere that you have to use it everyday for 2 weeks for your skin to get used to it. I found that the advice to be true. But also, I have to spend a little extra time and effort under my jaw/chin, but the built-in timer says I still only use it about 3 minutes per total shave.

I've tried a lot of electric razors; the Panasonic wet/dry is the best, partly because you can use it with shaving cream in the shower. It still isn't as good as a Mach 3, but it's a little easier on my face, so I alternate.

I have to agree with Lasereth. I picked up one of those a month ago. It gives me a better shave than my $60 dollar electric razor... and almost as good as the Mach 3. Its a great little invention. Shaveman to the rescue.

I'd just stick with a mach 3. They are really the best shave you can get IMO.
