Stomach cramps from Soda

I like soda, I don't drink a lot of it, but within the past couple of weeks, everytime I drink just a little- I get mild to strong stomach cramps. Is it the carbonation? and why is it all of the sudden affecting me this way? Is my body just telling me that I don't need it? I don't mind, sometimes I have cravings for a coke, but if it's the carbonation, i don't want to stir the bubbles out of it to be able to drink it. This is only happening with soda, nothing else, and it's not like gas (i don't think), it's just cramps. If you're a female, you'd know that crampy feeling I'm speaking of- it's like that. So, just wondering if anyone else has had this happen or if you know what's causing it.

Well, I don't know that, but if you drop a couple grains of salt into soda, all the bubbles will be gone in about a minute.

I've never heard of carbonation doing that to a person, but you never know.

Is it that the soda is too cold?

Is it just Coke that causes it? or all sodas. (ie ginger ale, or 7-up-- wonder if it's a reaction to something in the coke, like the caramel coloring or something)

Are you drinking it on an empty stomach? I find that drinking soda before first having something to eat gives me something similar. Even just eating a cracker or too before hand eliminates it for me.

Do you maybe have an ulcer?

The CO2 in soda can form small amounts of carbolic acid in your mouth and stomach which is hell on tooth enamel and stomach lining. Perhaps you are experiencing gastritis which is irritated everytime you drink the soda. May want to try laying off the soda a bit and using some otc zantac/pepcid. Bet that helps

The caffiene might hurt your stomach too, especially if you haven't eaten anything that day.
Try drinking sprite or some other non-caffienated drink and see if it still hurts

I've drinken non-caffeinated too and it still gives me cramps, even after food. I don't drink a lot, either. Yesterday I had some coke and it didn't bother me, so I tried some today and I have a very slight crampy feeling again. Guess I need a check-up, huh?

Oshnsoul, I too have had that problem and it could be a number of stomach-related issues. Mine had to do with candida, which is a whole other can of worms. But, have you ever heard of the experiment where a nail is dissolved by a can of coke in 24 hours. Well, it is true. Coke (along with all the other soft drinks) eat your stomach lining and if it takes (I think) 2 weeks for your lining to regrow itself. And if you have been constantly drinking soda enough to the point where your lining can't keep up, you will have that burning feeling almost immediately, like you describe, no matter how much or how little. It could very well be an ulcer, but less likely.

I haven't been drinking soda in like, the past month(just because I don't need it, there is no nutritional value), but I've been drinking tons of seltzer water. Then just the other night my family went out for a dinner(it was a special occasion) so I figured what the hell, and got a glass of Pepsi. I felt fine until the next day, when I had some pretty bad stomache cramps. That's the only thing that I could imagine doing it to me. But you seem to drink soda somewhat regularly, so it probably wouldn't be the same thing. I think my body just wasn't used to the sugar or something. It wasn't the carbonation, because like i said, I drink a lot of seltzer water, which has carbonation.
