Vacation & Mail delivery.
I have a fairly small mailbox that could probably hold about 2 days' worth of mail.
I'm gonna be going on vacation for a week and was wondering if there's some kind of prodecure that the USPS uses when your mailbox is 100% stuffed with mail. Do they hold onto it until it's clear.. or do you have to put in some kind of notification that you'll be out of town or anything? |
The way it works around here (NYC) is - you can go down to the post office, and have them hold your mail for a week. They simply won't deliver it, and when you return, you can come pick it up and resume delivery.
Have a nice trip! |
Sweet, thanks a ton!
I checked usps.com and found "Hold Mail" in their services section. I was able to fill out an online request and all that jazz. Guess I should've checked there first ;) |
I've found that they'll hold your mail for 10 days w/o instructions. If you're going to be gone longer than that, a temporary "change of address" form will get them to hold it longer. Speak with them.

You know, I don't get enough mail to worry.
All I get is bills anyhow, and who cares if they disappear? To be honest, we have a mail hole in our door. Our cats think it is fun to attack the mail as it flies in, and they also like to stick their arms out at people who are trying to get in. It is quite funny. So anyway, we really don't need our mail held. |
