Credit Card Rankings

Anyone know of a good site out there that ranks credit cards according to a list of criteria?

I guess I'm looking for a Consumer Reports for credit cards.

Credit cards??? CUT THEM UP!

If you have to use them try these links for some good information:

Hope this helps!

I wouldn't use a credit card ever again. We got rid of ours a year ago. We've not run into a situation where a debit card wouldn't do the trick or for internet stuff - pay pal works great too.

If I traveled much I would probably get an American Express where I would pay off the balance every month.

i do not recomend citibank. they dont allow disputes for fraudulent transactions that are 100 miles away from your home. so if someone steals your credit card, and uses it in another city, you will be responsible for paying. this hapend to me. someone used my credit card in another country and i ended up having to pay for it. citibank wouldnt even allow for a dispute.

And I had the exact opposite experience. Someone used one of my cards online with several overseas sites, and they wiped the charges. They also used it on several domestic sites and at a few retailers in California. I find it hard to believe that Citibank wouldn't let you dispute charges in another country if you could demonstrate that you were at home at the time. I can imagine them asking for proof, especially if you have a history of disputing charges incorrectly, loaning your card to others or have a criminal record. If none of those are valid in your case, I have a hard time believing that they wouldn't let you dispute and that it's even legal for them to disallow that at all.

Believe whatever you want, but check my profile and my journal. The bank that owns my company (which is based in NC) is a direct competitor of Citibank, and I spend a good portion of my time competing against them on one of their insurance products for West Coast construction liability. I have never worked for Citibank or any of their subsidiaries.

I happen of have had one of Citibank's since college, and I had a good experience when something went wrong. I shared my experience.

So, in other words, before you call me a liar, know what the fuck you're talking about. Otherwise, I'm going to call you moron in public. So congratulations, you're a moron. Go troll somewhere else.

Are Citibank credit cards through Visa? If so, you have 100% fraud protection.....

As far as recommending a credit card, they are all very similar. American Express makes you pay it off in full at the end of each month. The rest usually make you pay a minimum payment on the balance.

I love credit cards. Gets you out of baaaad situations. Just don't run a balance; have the discipline to not spend more than you have (or will have in the near future).

O rly?

I would love to see that written somewhere in their terms and conditions. I can't seem to locate it on ANY of my documents, nor on their website.

I guess when the underpaid telephone person said to you, "No we don't cover it." "No we don't have any methods for disputing transactions." You just believed them.

Did you take it up wards to managers, supervisors, customer service and fraud protection departments? Did you contact your State Attorney General? Did you file a police report? Did you write any letters to your local representatives?

No? You just paid the bill? Or did you default on it?

All credit card companies have terms and conditions for disputing charges. I'd side with the fact that you were too lazy to bother writing letters and making phone calls, since you can't capitalize, use apostrophes, don't use spell check, or have any kind of coherent grammar.

Congratulations, you're a winner!

I'd have to suggest going with what bank does the most for you and which loyalty program makes sense for you. Having a Chase Shell Card does nothing for you if you don't have a car to redeem it for gas, but if you travel you may use it to pay for your gas in the rental car. Take some time to think about your needs and which institution fulfills it.

I know about this because I resell credit services. Fraud protection and chargeback rights are provided for by the credit network (visa, mastercard), not by the individual bank. No credit network has any such policy--in fact, the credit network and the merchant bank most often take the side of the cardholder in any dispute with a merchant. The cardholder is the person who supplies the money that makes the whole machine turn, after all.

In short: what you said here is pure crap.

Under federal law, your liability is limited to $50 if your credit card is stolen and used by someone else. If you report it stolen before it is used, you are not responsible for any of the charges. The same law (Fair Credit Billing Act) requires citibank or any credit card issuer to follow specific dispute resolution procedures if you want to question any transaction.

Debit cards do not have the same liability protection.

From the Federal Trade Commission:
Quote:

Credit Card Loss or Fraudulent Charges (FCBA). Your maximum liability under federal law for unauthorized use of your credit card is $50. If you report the loss before your credit cards are used, the FCBA says the card issuer cannot hold you responsible for any unauthorized charges. If a thief uses your cards before you report them missing, the most you will owe for unauthorized charges is $50 per card. Also, if the loss involves your credit card number, but not the card itself, you have no liability for unauthorized use.

ATM or Debit Card Loss or Fraudulent Transfers (EFTA). Your liability under federal law for unauthorized use of your ATM or debit card depends on how quickly you report the loss. If you report an ATM or debit card missing before it's used without your permission, the EFTA says the card issuer cannot hold you responsible for any unauthorized transfers. If unauthorized use occurs before you report it, your liability under federal law depends on how quickly you report the loss.

You should make yourself aware of your rights to dispute credit card charges:

Blue from American Express allows you to carry a balance. There are actually several products from AMEX which allow you to carry a balance. The minimum payments are something like 1/50th of your balance though so be careful.
