Reason For Leaving?

Can someone please tell me what can I put in space left for "Reason For Leaving" on an application form.

The reason I ask is the fact I have quit a couple of jobs and would like to put a positive light on these work experiences not the fact I decided to leave the organization.

Thanks

relocation.

I can spin anything... I could make a mass murderer look like a choir boy.

But you'd done a fine job of it yourself. You learned something from the position. that's good for companies to hear.
Questions first:
Why did you actually leave the companies? How long were you at each position? What'd you do at each position? Was each job a stepping stone to the next job? (Can it be spun that way?)

On most job applications, you get about 1 inch to write about why you left, generally left for a better opportunity is the standard response, or In the interview itself, that's where you can sell the reason.

But truth be told, unless you got fired from every position, or spent 3 months working there, and left for more money, people aren't expected to spent 20 years at a company any more.

Your creativity and your bank account were no longer challenged. : )

Rectal exam gone awry.

Seriously:
"Relocated" is the one I use the most.

No opportunity for growth.

That's a great reason. Tells them what you expect to find, at the same time as answering the actual question.

That is a great reason! I've never thought of using that.

I was advised to put "to discuss at interview", but I do like No Opportunity for Growth.

I was dismissed because of "Schedule Incompatibility." I actually wrote "Asshole District Manager" once. I think "No room for growth" sounds a lot better, although I'm going to switch to "downsizing" since half the district got fired (not laid off) at once.

For a moment there I thought that said "Reason for living".

Be short and cryptic. If they care, they'll ask for details. Much of the time, they won't care.

Scheduling conflicts, poor prospects for company, left for extended travel, no room for growth (good one), desired more challenging work, etc.

I thought the same thing.

I put my vote in for "No room for growth".

"Better opportunity"
"Relocation"
"No room for growth"

are the top 3 things I would say.

I'm on the fence with "no room for growth", it's fine really but it sounds just a little negative to me. But I do understand the thought and reasoning behind the suggestion. It's often the truth!! But it seems to be that you don't leave just because there's no room for growth -- there has got to be a better opportunity to prompt you to leave.

I was stuck in a dead-end shit job for 3 years, where there was no room for growth whatsoever. I was actually LOSING money working that that hole, but not nearly as much as if I'd just up and quit because I couldn't advance myself at all. And that is indeed the reason why I left -- no room for growth -- but I only left once I found a better opportunity

While it does seem negative, it is very positive. It says if not screams,"I am ambitious!"

There are some people out there who are just fine in their situation to "sit pretty" because they don't care about their growth, they aren't persuing any thing but just wanting to collect their paycheck.

I managed a person mid 50's 2 kids on their way to college, he had a good side business, but needed something that gave him good income and benefits. So he worked with us for over 5 years in a dead end position. He still would be there today if there wasn't a massive reorg that pushed him into another direction.

Now speaking for myself, I currently don't care about my growth at this time. I want to "sit pretty" since the project I was hired as my primary responsibility was slated to run 2 years, I'm at midpoint and I know that the project is going to run at least another 1-2 years over that. My boss, isn't going anywhere either, so I'm definitely in a dead end spot for the moment.

now... jumping ship because there is no room for growth and sitting at home unemployed is just stupid. And there are some people that do that because there's "no room for growth" and that should be apparent too because they will have a gap in their work experience if they weren't lucky enought to get a job within a months time frame.

How about writing:

"Employer asked too many questions about previous job".

That'll show them.
