advice please

Im currently working dead end factory work at rubbermaid, as a temp, for 8/hour.
i just got offered a job as a technician for Dell and IBM going out in the akron/canton/cleveland, OH area doing their warranty work to business and home users. its gonna pay me around 600 a week minimum ith a lot more possible.

im just worrie dsomething is gonna happen ith the new job and ill be stuck unemployed agian.

im thinkin maybe do both for a few weeks then decide? only problem is rubbermaid is 12 hours at night, so id be workin 12 hours, then goin straight to the other job. id lose a lot of sleep.

what do you think i should do?

im nervous for some reason

Are you confident in your abilities?
Do you have a good working ethic:
-able to complete tasks
-don't waste time/do persoanal activities at work
If so then I'd consider only working for Dell.

You have to take chances in life to get what you really want. Leave on good terms with Rubbermaid so you don't burn any bridges. If anything should happen with the Dell job...

...it wouldn't be the end of the world. I say go for the Dell job!

the higher the reward the higher the risk and greater the responsibility.

you won't lose anything if you don't do anything, which also means you won't gain anything.

Dead-end jobs are easy to replace, oppurtunities come rarely...

Can you tell which side of the fence that I'm on?

Good Luck:thumbsup:

Any chance you can reduce your hours at Rubbermaid to allow you to do both jobs and still sleep? If not, I'd say just go ahead and go for the new job - worrying about something that might happen is never a great excuse for not taking a great opportunity. Good luck!

You'll never know unless you try. I've worked 2 jobs for most of my adult life. Sleep is a necessity, but you can go a couple of weeks without. I'm currently not working 2 jobs, but still sleep like I do. Just don't fuck up either job due to lack of sleep.

Well if you're only working as a temp at Rubbermaid why not try the Dell job? If things don't work out then at least you tried it and you're no worse off than you were before

Exactly. I'm assuming that Rubbermaid knows you don't want to make plastic containers for the rest of your life, so if you leave on good terms with them (explain that something in your field of expertise came up, give them 2 weeks notice and work hard right 'til the last minute of your last shift). If things fall through with Dell, there'd be a good chance of going back to Rubbermaid if they had an opening, seeing as they wouldn't have to train you like they'd have to train someone completely new.
Best of luck to you.

yes, go for it. temp jobs are a dime a dozen, even if the rubbermaid job is gone. it sounds like a very middle of the road temp job pay-wise. if anything happens at dell, you can go back. just leave on good terms with your temp agency, and they'll take you back if need be

Rodney 05-21-2004 09:02 PM

No-brainer. Your worry is the security of the new job, but a temp job has no security whatever. Take the new job.

Esco 05-22-2004 08:13 PM

Go for it. Easy decision, take the job.

You'll only have regrets if you don't.
