One week on, one week off.
Is having a slump after working out and dieting for a week a common thing?
I've been trying to get on a better routine for a while now... and for the first week I'm pretty good, cut calories and eat really healthy, and work out daily for around an hour. But the second week its much harder and I giv eup, and a week later I start over again. I've been doing this for 2 months now and I'm seeing results still, but its just so odd for me. Gargagh. I blame the ramen noodle stockpile that lulls me back to the dark side. |
Personally, I simply changed a small amount at a time.
I eliminated sugar drinks (replaced with water and 50-50 club soda/juice, then eventually just club soda), and started walking 15 km a week. Then, removed chips, and started swimming 600 m a week. Two weeks later, was up to 2 km a week, and minor diet changes (replacing simple carbs with complex carbs, vitamin pills, etc) Within 2 months, I was swimming 15 km a week, eating healthier (not dieting: just eating more regularly and selecting slightly healthier food), and had lost 13 lbs. And none of it is a burden, it is just now how things are. Meh. Sorry for the biography, but the point is, if you are having problems with backsliding, try doing small changes instead of everything at once. The goal in the end is to have a healthier lifestyle, right? If all you ever do is diet and splurge, that won't be a healthy lifestyle. |
Get rid of the stockpile of Ramen :)
It's much easier to eat healthier when you don't have junk food around. I've moved to my own place recently and I'm trying had to eat well and not have junk food. I have a few bags of popcorn and that's it. I'd much rather have a fridge stocked with fruit then bags of chips laying around. I find it hard to be motivated as well. I'm trying to get into a routine. I've been doing some yoga, and I want to start walking, but with it being dark by the time I'm done with dinner it's hard. I know I just need to suck it up and get out there, but at 7:30-8:00 at night I'd just much rather sit on my couch and chill. |
It also depends on how much your putting on yourself. You cant go from, eating shit food, and not doing anything. To working out evey other day, and eating fruits and good stuff. If you do it that way, its never gonna last. Just ease into it and do one heathy thing at a time. And then add more dimensions to your heathy kick.

Thanks... I think I'm slowly improving...
