Breathing while running.
As of late I've been trying to run/jog more regularly to invest in my cardiovascular health. I've always heard that your breathing is a huge part of running. I've been trying to pattern and space it out so it's consistant and not breathe fast and ragged, and it seems to work ok. I was wondering if anyone had a more specific description of how they personally have found for breathing patterns? I essentially do in inhalation for three steps and exhale over 2-3 steps, and it seems to work ok. I'm just seeking to maxamize my workout here I guess.

ok when im running i make myself fall into pattern of two small sharp intakes through the nose, one lengthier exhale through the mouth. You begin to sound like a train after a while, but it works well for me.

Smile while you run. I've read that it makes breathing easier, although don't quote me on that. It also gives you something to concentrate on.
The cute girls on the path like it too. ![]()

you're doing great, timing your breathing with your steps. A great way to keep pace.
The only tip I can offer is to breath in through your nose, and out through your mouth. First, the nasal passages warm the air to body temperature before it reaches the lungs, aiding respiration. Second, it prevents 'panting' breath, which might happen if you're breathing in and out through your mouth. Concentrate on breathing deeply and steadily, and you'll be alright the whole run.
