actual skinny man's success story
Wow, I used to post on boards all the time about bein so tall and skinny, and I have to say, the tried and true methods do work!
I was about 6'2 180 pounds about a year ago and now I'm at about 197 and it's all been muscle mass. seriously guys, forget all that creatine and other dangerous stuff - just eat lots of protein (protein supplements do help - but again, just take protein, not some other crazy stuff), hit the gym 4x a week or so, don't hit the same muscle groups 2 days in a row, and do quality sets! (that is, practice proper form with relevent weight). Finally, I'm happy about where I am and I can truthfully say that all of those methods do work! hot damn |

Well done!! I am in the same boat as you. About 3 years ago I was 6'5" 185 now i'm 6'5" and 230. Never touched anything besides protien and a lot of lifting. It takes time but it does work. In highschool I used to be even worse (6'3" 165). But when I was younger it seems I would never put on mass, just get toned. Perhaps it was because of my workout style, I was much less knowledgable about this stuff.
I definitely second the notion of just sticking with it, doing quiality form, and giving your muscles the time they need to heal. Congrats again on your progress!! |

Another tall, skinny guy here (6'2"-170). I've only been lifting seriously for about 2 months, but I'm already noticing some gains, which I wasn't really expecting this early on. I use protein and a weight gain supplement (Interactive Lean Gainer 2) and hit the gym 3-4 times a week. I figure if I can put on 15 lbs of muscle this year, I'll be doing alright.
This forum has been a godsend for me, and I'd probably be lost without all the tips I've picked up here. |
Congrats! I'm workin on it, but I gotta start on the protein. I'm currently 6'6" and 165...getting there.

Congrats fellas, if you need any more, feel free to borrow some of mine. I just dropped another 16lbs of body fat, and have noticed big gains in my muscle mass lately. 5'7", 200lbs even atm.

Awesome. Your post was exactly what I've wanted to hear! My gains might not be as much, but I do want to note that I've gained about three pounds since I've started my new high calorie/high protein diet and weight lifting regimen. :) Way to go!

yea forget all those fancy extreme diets! just exercise properly and eat well enough and the gains will be there.

wow. some hope. Currently 6'4, 165lbs. In college i used to work out like mad though and never got above 178. This was 5 times a week an hour and a half a day. I'd improve real quick and top out, and it seemed like all that effort was for nothing, so i'd always give up.

The key is just to load up on the protien, give your body time to recover, and train to bulk up. As soon as I started training right (high weight, low reps, not spending too long lifting, really pushing the weight hard) the pounds started flying on. Everytime I see someone that I know that I havent seen in a while they can hardly believe its me anymore. Just dont give up and train right. You wont need anything other than some good protien and focus.

Serious, seriously.
High weights, low reps, excellent technique and lots of protein, and perfectly timed carb intake work. Period. The end. How to lose weight and all that, still an imperfect science. However, gaining mass does indeed have tried and proven methods. There really is no guess work in that at all. |

I'm another success story I suppose - I was always skinny despite going to the gym regularly. I was muscular and toned, but no real weight or bulk to me. At 5'10" tall, I weighed just under 11 stone (about 150lb/68kg). I realised eventually that it was my diet and the type of lifting I was doing (fixed weights suck btw). For a solid 3 months I was lifting heavy free weights every other day (benchpress was my fave), eating lots of carbs before going in and then eating lots of protein to rebuild the muscle the next. I didn't even touch a drop of protein supplement - just ate lots of fish and red meat. I managed to put on over a stone of muscle (now weigh 12 stone 2lb) and look a lot better for it. I can benchpress around 100kgs, but tend to lift ~85kg frequently to keep in shape. Remember this rule for lifting - lots of little for toning up/stamina, little of lots for bulking up/power. |
