I'd probably try and help him in any way I could...though it may depend on what kind of son he is. =P

Well his odds are better than you adopting a dog right now. Even a cutie like Jake.

You know you will so just do it.

I would help him out, on one condition. When you're old and your health is failing, you tell him he better put you in the best damn nursing home he can find.

I think a little more information is needed. Is he generally responsible? Will he pay you back? Is he a deadbeat(no offense, it happens)? Do you want to help him?

Help him out, but set it up so that you aren't financially obligated for a long-term. I would put it in his name and pay it direct pay out of my checking account. Set up a certain time frame for him to take over payments and then stop paying. You can always change the time frame if the situation warrants it, but you don't want to be on the hook for either his non-payment or if he lets it lapse.

Medical or driving. If driving, nope, too poor for insurance, he should't be driving anway.

I had to buy my own. But I wasn't broke- my parents' theory- if you have a job, you pay for it.

But if he's broke, i'd help out. If there is something he can do about it, help him do so.

I'm assuming it's auto insurance. If so, it depends on if it's a short term cash shortage. If he's unemployed and needs a car to job hunt, help him out. If he's just lazy and doesn't want to get a job to pay for the insurance, then he shouldn't be driving.

Totally agree -- maybe buy him a bus pass.

Oh, and no insurance = no driving privilages because if he is living with you and gets in an accident, you can be held responsible. So take the keys away until he provides proof of insurance.

(FYI -- research shows that if a kid has to buy his own car, insurance, etc. he'll have more respect for it because he had to work for it and is therefore much less likely to get in an accident.)

Too many variables. If he's out of the house and supporting himself and needs the car to get to work, make him a loan. If he can get around without a car, he should make alternate arrangements (bus, car pool, whateve).

If he chooses not to buy the insurance and you are liable for him in any way -- he's still under 18, your dependent, whatever -- grab the keys. He'll probably try to keep driving.

His own polocy right? Help him out, dont pay all of it. Agree to pick up whatever he cannot pay, so long as ALL of his money goes towards the insurance. While your helping him, he better be broke... real broke.

At this point, he is probably going to have to work a job, simply so he can drive. In the end, its worthwhile.

Several questions to ask.
How did he end up broke?
1) Did he buy some new fancy toy that he doesnt need?
2) Spend to much time with the buddies drinking and partying.
3) Is he in school and had some unexpected school costs?
4) Lost his job and there were more important bills to pay then the insurance?
The first or second one I would pay it on one condition. Has he ever come to you for money before now. If not then hes just made some bad money decision this time round. But specify that the only reason you are doing this is because this is the first time hes come to you for money. Let it be a financial lesson and tell him that you are not going to continue to be there to solve his money problems. If hes constantly asking you for money even though this is important tell him forget it you are tired of pulling him out of the money hole and its about time to realize that theres more important things then partying and having fun.
If he falls into the 3rd or 4th I would definately pay for it. He needs his insurance to look for another job and to get back and forth to appointments.

A little more info might help.... the son goes to school and works too.

He also HATES Ford Rangers.... total X 2 and rearended a lady in #3. Three accidents.

2 speeding tickets.

Ins company won't insure mom and pop without son because he lives at home. So mom and pop get to pay hugely for their ins.

That right King? I mean el' Presidente.

BOO is correct. I swapped to the good hands people and My insurance dropped to under $1000 six months.

He needed $1500 to start a policy. I paid it but now I am broke until payday. Such is life.

He is worth it.

BOO, your dog is not cute
