Coffee - healthy??

I've been so busy lately, I've worked out an average of like 1.5 times per two weeks in the past few months.. yet I'm getting skinnier even though I've been eating a bit more than I used to even.
I also started drinking 20oz (full pot) of coffee every morning for the last few months, too. (Before that it was maybe like a half pot a few times a week..) I can only guess that it must have an effect on my metabolism. I did a quick google search and there are some sites that support that theory, though I couldn't find anything concrete. This article was pretty interesting to read.

And apparently, from me asking before, I've learned that coffee is also a natural laxative - so I guess that's helpful.

What do you guys think?

Coffee is not good for you. It isn't necessarily bad either, but it is a diaeretic which dehydrates you and removes important water from your body. The more coffee you drink, you better be drinking a LOT of extra water to compensate.

Coffee is fine at one, maybe two cups a day. It actually has some healthy benefits, but once you cross the line of intake and are basically consuming it as if it were food, it can lead to weight loss, diabetes, insomnia, or reverse effect: fatigue.
It can also lead to heart problems, digestive problems, and much more. So, in moderation, it's fine.

As Plan9 pointed out, coffee's (well, caffeine) a diuretic so your abiliy to retain water is retarded and you loose more water. So it's important to drink more water to make up for this!

Caffeine speeds up your digestion and excretion (this is the diuretic effect) so having it with meals or moreso important meals is bad because your food doesn't get process properly in your stomach. It maybe a laxative, but your food isn't getting processed properly in your stomach!

As OshnSoul said, too much is bad. That can actually lead to addiction and some dependacy as well (i should know, i sometimes get it during exam time at uni ). The withdrawal symptons from not getting your newly aquired addicted amount is normally a pretty intense miagraine. Although after a day, you're pretty much cured. Even some constant moderate amounts of coffee can lead to a moderate addiction.

If you'ce been drinking a full pot everyday for the last few months, you're likely to hvae some withdrawal symptons
one ounce *= 30 ml
20 ounces = 600ml of coffee a day

I actually get a 600ml carton of commercial iced coffee whenever i am at work or uni (normally weekdays) or just have one glass of coffee (latte, ie 90 per cent milk, my own version) that i make at home. on this current amount, i don't seem to get anymore withdrawal like symptoms or light-headedness, which i used to get about 2 years or so back, cause i drank too much. Coffee is my achilles heel though, cause it taste so good, to me
