Porn addicting?

Is it me or is porn addicting?

jhericurl21 01-06-2004 06:36 PM

having the TittyBoard leave fixed me right

bermuDa 01-06-2004 07:42 PM

it's you, and about 10 million other guys :p

01-06-2004 10:48 PM

Id say closer to 3 billion.

PulpMind 01-07-2004 01:33 AM

I'm addicted.. sort of... maybe it's getting better now that I don't have my own computer.. and it gets better when I have a girlfriend... but damnit, I look at way too much porn! I swear to bog, I've seen 90% of all the porn that exists on the internet =(

Dano069 01-07-2004 06:31 AM

It can be addicting, if you let it. I'm a binge porno peruser (aka, pervert). Every once in a while I'll just get this mind set that I have to see it, read it. It lasts for a day or two and then things return to normal. Kind of like being a binge drinker I guess.

Inexistance 01-07-2004 10:01 AM

I guess I let it. Just cant stay away! Maybe I have to much time on my hands.

Jynx 01-07-2004 11:07 AM

is the porn addictive, or is it the mentality searching for porn?

i personally go in phases, like dano - i'm right now in the "take it or leave it, usually leave it" phase, but i'm sure that eventually i'll get a hankerin' for some b00bies....

mmm, b00bies......

sillygirl 01-07-2004 01:14 PM

Porn can be addicting. Just as addicting as cocaine, alcohol, etc. It's real.

Jim Kata 01-07-2004 01:20 PM

I was addicted to downloading parts of a series for about an hour everyday from various freeporn sites. But then a couple of weeks ago my PC got fuct up, so I couldn't do it anymore. Now that its up (My PC, not my cockler), I haven't downloaded shit. It broke the cycle...for now. All the kleenex boxes in my house are getting a break until I have that urge again.

edit: I just remembered...I did stop downloading new ones.....I still reuse old ones....so yeah, I guess I'm still addicted.

The term 're-use' just made me laugh. As though the porn was somehow spoiled after one use, like after you've jerked to it, the women are wearing parkas the next time.

Jesus Pimp 01-07-2004 08:41 PM

It can be addicting. With me it goes in phases. It really depends on the porn stars I'm interested in. If they don't have anything new for a while then I usually don't download more until they have some fresh videos. Also I'm really picky about my porn. It has to be quality stuff. Lately there hasn't been much quality so I haven't been downloading at all.

World's King 01-07-2004 09:20 PM

All I know is that I need a fix.

sillygirl 01-07-2004 11:58 PM

I don't understand the term 'quality porn'

Jesus Pimp 01-08-2004 02:29 AM

Quality porn for me is hot women/teens having great sex on camera and look like they're enjoying it. No smut for me please.

high_way 01-08-2004 04:47 AM

i work at a computer store so i dont have to download any porn. i have a huge collection on my computer and have only download a little.... but as a number of others i go in stages.

skysooner 01-08-2004 06:55 AM

I rarely, if ever, actively search for porn anymore. I grew up reading my dad's Playboys. I still have a subscription to Playboy. I actually do read it for the articles. The women are nice but are of secondary concern anymore. I used to actively look at porn on the Internet, but after a time, I got saturated and kind of bored by it. I'm much more turned on by seeing a nice woman in person than any image I see on the computer. That doesn't mean it isn't nice for a late night masturbation session if I'm turned on and the wife is asleep, but it isn't something I would say I'm addicted to anymore.

It is addicting to some people yes. I personally dont find it addicting in the sense that staring at it just to get off. Myself and my other half will look at it just to give each other visual ideas of what would be fun to try and what would physically kill us.

tooth 01-10-2004 09:14 PM

Well, theoreticaly, one can become addicted to anything. Addiction can be physical, psychological, or a combination of both.

I once knew a guy who was addicted to ChapStick of all things! He couldn't go 1/2 hour without applying another coat.

KellyC 01-13-2004 10:43 PM

....and I thought I was of the precious few...glad to know its some-what normal :D

Soggybagel 01-14-2004 02:44 PM

It can be. I've never personally been so addicted that I will freak if I don't get my "fix." Though I am sure it can be just as addicting for people as any other drug or anything. Really though you just have to get out...play a sport or do something to get your mind off of it if you are totally bent on porn.

LStanley 01-15-2004 04:18 AM

porn is like crack... touch it once and yer hooked for life and will even sell personal shit to get more of it...

"I'll trade you a microwave far your new girls gone wild dvd"

lolol

but yeah.. I'll admit... I'm addicted to porn... I'm in the process making a compiliation of the "we live together" series..

It isn't that easy. Have you ever seen a recovering druggy or alcoholic? With all the withdrawal that they go through, etc? Porn is worse, IMO. Because it's free. And easier to hide.

Candide 01-15-2004 05:28 PM

Ok, just to bring everyone back down to earth:

Addiction: n., the fact or process of being addicted, especially the process of taking a drug habitually and being unable to give it up without incurring adverse effects.

The above is from the Canadian Oxford Dictionary.

Now, before you say "What an asshole" and dismiss this post, I actually have a point other than being a word nerd.

When we call habits (shopping, television viewing, porn consumption) or compulsions (cleaning the house 5 times in a row, or the above mentioned persons use of Chap-Stik) an addiction we do three things:

1) Surrender all of our power to make a choice to change our behaviour. We become helpless, because, after all, this is now an "addiction" and therefore a medical condition beyond individual control or responsibility.

2) Misdiagnose and hence mistreat real conditions. "Chap-Stik addict" instead of someone showing signs of an obsessive-compulsive disorder.

3) Cheapen, and ultimately render meaningless a valuable word that properly describes a real and devastating problem - addiction.

Rant done. Word nerd hereby retreats to the safety of Canada.

thespian86 01-19-2004 03:50 PM

Intresting question, yeh, sure it is, but it is just because of where you are if you ask me. If you put yourself in a bar if your an alchoholic, your going to drink yourself silly. If your addicted to porn, you put yourself in front of your computer when your horny. TADA! you get the porn!

Litespeed 01-19-2004 04:10 PM

yeah. it's addicting.
want to read a few things on how bad porn is for you? PM me. I'll send you bucketfulls.

fik 01-19-2004 04:31 PM

I rarely spend much time to search for porn, It is not even close to addicting for me

If I want to get off I'll usually read an erotic story (way better in my opinion), I also like some softcore sensual porn with just one beautiful girl showing off her stuff and/or masturbading.

I dislike all 'hardcore porn' with them saying stuff like "fuck my tight pussy with your hard cock now!", "let me swallow your cock after its been in my ass!" etc with no love to it. I can't stand it, ugh.

SiN 01-19-2004 05:00 PM

hrm..

yes, porn can be 'addicting', psycologically.
it can cause all sorts of problems, etc...

does it have to? No. of course not.
Is it bad because of its 'addictiveness'?
imo, No.

it's all in how/why one 'uses' it.

now, i don't think *i* would ever get 'addicted' to the porn itself..
...but i do get a bit obsessive/compulsive with my collecting of it.

mhm...to each their own.
some don't understand the concept of a good action movie or country song or whatever else.
a simple matter of personal taste :)

Halx 01-19-2004 05:06 PM

I work in the industry. I am not addicted.

Perhaps it's education.

I'll tell you what's a worse addiction than porn... speeding in your car. One can arrouse you, the other can kill you.

*Nikki* 01-19-2004 05:33 PM

I get highly aroused going fast in my car.

I get semi aroused looking at porn.

I rather have the real thing anyday.

xim 01-23-2004 12:57 AM

Back when I was in 8th grade I had already accumlated 10 gig of porn (which is a lot now but was a fuckin SHITLOAD then)

Andy 01-26-2004 03:57 PM

When I was younger.. 14 - 18 or so, I looked at porn all the time.. and lemme tell ya, it really was a lot of time on a 33.6 kbps connection! I'd say around 1996 I had filled up my family's computer hard drive about 30% with porn. (I made them into zip files, and then renamed the zip files to something else so nobody would know.)

Anyway, since then, (I am 21 now) I don't care about porn anymore. I feel desensitized. I now have 360 GB of storage on my desktop, and ZERO porn. Though, it's hard for me to get off on porn now. It is easier with a real girl (or remembering a time with a real girl) than imagining with a porn star.

crony 01-26-2004 05:01 PM

I'd say it's more of a hobby than addiction.

bigbad 01-27-2004 03:37 AM

I enjoy speeding AND looking at porn, wouldn't say either is an addiction though, you would have to be pretty fanatical about either one for it to be deemed an addiction I think.

Jephree 01-27-2004 01:22 PM

The TittyBoard makes it easy to catch a daily ganders.

illesturban 02-05-2004 08:50 PM

I have to admit that I think I am addicted to porn. I have so much it's insane. I'm talkin DVD's, VCD's, CD's full of avi's & mpg's, and a huge collection of pictures on my hard drive and cd's. I find it hard to get rid of porn after I watch it. I have this mentality of where I feel that I'll want to watch it again later so I just have to burn it or keep it on my hard drive.

I saw someone above mentioned erotic stories and yeah those are hot; I read those too. I'm a pornophile. I mean, if only you could've seen me after I met Ron Jeremy last week... *smh* lmao.

It's just as real as a cocaine addiction. But you don't really comprehend it as something real until you experience it or someone you know does.

RenaissanceII 02-06-2004 08:51 AM

as one with an addictive personallity, i can say that it can be.

the question you must ask yourself is "Is this getting in the way of my work, relationships, etc? does viewing/gathering this add something to the repitore, or does it put unrealistic expectations
upon yourself and/or a SO?"

as with many addictions, the addiction itself is a symptom.

in my case, i tend to run hot and cold on porn.

funseeker27 02-07-2004 08:04 PM

Did someone say porn???

gorilla 02-10-2004 07:00 PM

I'd take an average, live girl over a downloaded porn star anyday!
but, I need to go to a pornoholics anonymous meeting just like everyone one else here

nanofever 02-10-2004 10:37 PM

I know the difference between addiction and hobby.

I get addicted to computer RPGs, ie going without food and sleep for longer than I should, well and that one time I sucked a dick for a copy of Fallout 2... ;)

Porn is just a hobby for me.

hosti|e 02-11-2004 09:08 PM

I think its way too addictive and easy to access. I personally believe it gave me a skewed view on relationships and women as i started watching from such an early age.

It scares me that with the internet so accessable these days, so many kids will be going thru what i did and becoming slowly more addicted with every passing day.

Personally i think im over it now, i still have about 90 gig but its rarely used.

Parker 02-12-2004 08:36 PM

The real question is who is not addicted to porn. I feel that people deep down inside enjoy porn.

sillygirl 02-13-2004 05:35 AM

I disagree with that statement. I don't like porn.

Every day at work I deal with people who obviously are WAY too interested in porn. It practically rules their lives at times, it seems. Wives call, wanting to know what's going on. Girlfriends call in tears. I believe that porn is an incredibly unnecessary part of life.

02-17-2004 08:03 AM

I agree with all that sillygirl has said in this thread.
Right On!

Holo 02-22-2004 11:11 AM

I'm finally slowing down in my porn collecting. I was really getting crazy at one point. I found Usenet and got up to owning 500,000 pics quickly, and I wanted to get 1 million. I had days where dling 36,000 in one day was not unusual. I mastered site ripping and combined it with usenet and am finally slowing it down after collecting about 1.3 million pics. It takes up an entire bookshelf , at least 200 CDs full, and that's just the pics. I finally just got bored with collection and stopped going to those newsgroups and actively ripping sites. It would take me weeks to look at all this. I was more addicted to dling I think than porn but the porn was definitely it's own obsession for a while.

1. I admire your collection skillz :)
2. Yep, I'm more keen on the collecting process too. It's an obsession.

:D

wraithhibn 02-22-2004 01:56 PM

I'm defnitely addicted to downloading. Getting Bit Torrent working right definitely upped the addiction. Now for a bigger HD....

runawayfetus 02-22-2004 04:47 PM

yea its definitely addicting. I read an article about people who were addicted to porn. They do nothing with their lives but look at porn, always. Just like pot heads can do nothing all day but smoke weed. Its real, and almost scary.

doncalypso 02-22-2004 06:24 PM

I'm extremely addicted to porn... especially when it comes to anal sex and anal creampie videos.

I think I'll have to go to therapy to outgrow my porn addiction.

fhqwhgads 02-22-2004 06:29 PM

Adam Carolla once sumed it up in a way that made sense to me. It was a long time ago that I heard it, so forgive me if I bastardize it.

He was talking about the fact that when you first start out with porn, something as simple as the hint of a nipple would be enough to get you arroused, but after time it takes more explicit and sometimes more bizarre things to get you exited.

He said it was like on the 4th of July, when you first start lighting fireworks. At first, the sparklers are awesome and enough to keep you occupied, but by the end of the night you're pouring gasoline in the street and throwing lit fireworks at each other.

I think I had a point when I started, but hell if I can remember it now.
Good times...

BuddyHawks 02-22-2004 06:58 PM

i used to go nuts for it in High School, but now a days i could care less. desensitized/seen it all.
Seeing a hot person and imagining her nakid > revealing all.

You don't outgrow an addiction. You have to want to fix it. You have to WANT to get over it. And it takes a lot of work. People going through withdrawal from sexual addiction show a lot of the same withdrawal symptoms as those going through withdrawal of different drugs. And the thing about porn is that so much of it is free. It's easier to hide, and a large portion of society considers porn to be a 'normal' habit. So it's easier to pass it off, also. It is not 'normal' for someone to use cocaine. It isn't 'normal' for someone to drink themselves into oblivion every night. It's the same thing.
