New Year's HEALTH Resolutions!
Ok, here is the time of year in which a lot of us self-reflect and usually dwell upon the things that we would like to achieve. I am not looking forward to the bombardment of "how do I lose this gut" threads that we will most likely see in the next week or so in which we will answer the same way over and over
![]() ![]() Oh by the way....... HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! Last edited by Plan9Senior; 12-30-2003 at 02:15 PM.. |

hmmm, not really a fitness goal, but somtime i'd like to dunk the ball in basketball. I am about 187cm so i really should eb able to do it, it's a little depressing. Even though, i guess the main reason, is sorta the show-pony aspect, although it's also asserting yourself and implcitily saying "I am the fucken man"
![]() I played basketball on monday night, on a ring that was slightly bent and about 9 foot 10 or so. And i could dunk that pretty readily, so i am only just a bit off... Although white men can't jump ![]() That's pretty much it really, althoughs there also making my mad skillz even madder ![]() 46 and 2 just ahead of me ![]() |

Hmm, I want to get rid of my mini-gut. Progress has been great so far, in a month I've lost almost all of it... however the year is almost over, so I wont have a six pack before 2004.
![]() By this time next year, I expect to be fully toned, six pack and all. Oh and I want to get my teeth bleached. Not that they're yellow, I just want them pure white |

Just maintain: muscle mass, aerobic endurance, etc. I've had an impossible schedule for the last four months, and it's going on that way for another six at least. I've held on to most of what I've got strength-wise, but aerobics have fallen off and I've gained a little fat. Going to just try to do as much as i can in the little time I have, until all this hassle (an accelerated master's degree program) is done.

Lose 2 pounds.
Replace 5 pounds of fat with muscle. Rehab my knees enough to begin running again. I'd like to add at least 1 1/2 marathon this year, but I am trying to learn to be patient with things.

Let's see, I'd like to continue my progress toning.
I'm starting yoga to improve flexibility. Decrease my body fat %. I'd also like to run a 9 minute 1.5.

Also need to walk around on my toes a bit, although i think that just does calf definition really, like wearing high heels or something ![]() |

I'd like to get over this "hump" I've been hovering at my current weight for about 4 months and realize that something else has to change before I get past it. At first the weight came off so easily!!!! Oh well, I guess if it was easy it wouldn't be worth it.

My goals may seem high, but I realize that given my lack of willpower that I must set my goals at an almost unattainable level in order to motivate myself in any way what so ever. I will (I can't wish and hope, my determination must be total to even begin to succeed) either:
1. Drop to a lean 190 2. Drop to 225 or so, and still be faster, stronger and more defined than my best friend (he's around 7-10% bodyfat at around 185 or so) In addition to one of those: 1. Bench at least 250 by June/July (only because my most base sense of masculinity demands it) 2. Learn some sort of "fighting", preferably kickboxing 3. Get defined enough to feel comfortable getting my rewards that I set for certain goals (a couple of torso piercings and custom tribal ink on both sides of my ribcage) IT WILL HAPPEN! It's got to, I can't stay stagnant any longer.

I don’t believe in resolutions.
A resolution is something you are planning to do. That’s a lie to oneself. If you really wanted it then you would not wait till January 1st to start doing it. You would do it right now. Pushing something back to a later date means is just giving oneself an opportunity to make up excuses. If one is looking at a goal and the road looks hard then one should never lie to oneself and think that it will be easier a day, or a week or a month from now. At least that’s the way it’s always been for me. I would have accomplished so many things in my life if I just went ahead and started doing them the moment they came up. I learned my lesson well. Procrastination is the killer of willpower. Rant over, hurray! My goal this year is to bike across the province of Ontario with my friend this summer. I started training for it a month and a half ago. Cheers. |

In 2003, I resolved to lose 20 lbs - and did so AND managed to keep it off. I put about six or seven back on during the holidays, so those'll be coming off again this month.
My health resolution this year is to continue my resolution from last year: Primarily, instead of taking the elevator to my 13th floor office, I'll take the stairs every time (except lunch on Friday, which is my reward). I will, though, continue to hate every minute of it. ![]()

I hope all these people going on diets etc really stick to it. I saw a sign outside a gym today saying "New years resoltuion - Join up now!" i hope they're making a quick buck out of this tradition, with people dropping out quickly
![]() Same with all those places like Jenny Craig's etc. Just i am seeing a huge influx of these sorta ads around now. I don't like them preying on people when they're vulnerable ![]() So, people make you sure you stick to it ![]() |

I have a few big events coming up this year and my goals are directed at them. In late May I am doing the Half IronMan in Kona. This will be my longest Triathlon to date so it is a big milestone for me. Also, in the first week of June I will be doing the Aids Ride from SF to LA. That shouldn't be a problem if I am fit enough to do the Tri the week before.
I guess body wise my goal has always been to add about 10 to 15 pounds of muscle. I always seem to be fighting this war between the aerobic workout and the weight work though. I don't think I will ever get past 165. ![]()

right now i'm 6'5", 225lbs with a fairly low body fat %. definitely at the strongest i've ever been.
my resolutions are to lose a few %'s of body fat. bulk up to 235 - 240. continue to increase in strength. mostly i want to just avoid hitting that plateau and continue to make gains.

Just to get a healthier lifestyle. I've cut the coke to diet coke, the breakfast crap that I used to eat to one bowl of oatmeal and some fruit if im hungry, and pizza/fast food don't even appeal to me anymore (other than subway, but thats ok!). The only thing im still struggling with is going out to restauraunts with friends and ordering crap (its better now though!), forcing myself to eat salad.... man I hate salad, and exercising consistently.

I need to lose about 30 pounds (185 now) and start feeling better about my fitness level. My plan is to ride my bike as much as possible. Road and trail. So far I have logged 74 miles since the 1st. I am shooting for another 15 tomorrow.
Wish me luck. So far no weight change. |

Been eating like a mofo and lifting like a machine. Cycled creatine this month too. Well, I have gained 5 lbs so far with no rise in bodyfat so I am waaaaaay ahead of my goals. My biceps have gained half an inch in circumference too! I am very happy today because I have been at a plateau until lately

I've stopped eating meat.
It didn't have anything to do with New Years.... I followed a link somewhere and saw a video of a pig slaughterhouse, from live pig to hot dog. Almost made me cry ![]() I'm not cutting out meat altogether, just meat that comes from slaughterhouses. To me, it's about respecting the animal that is dying to feed me. I'll eat halal meat (some Muslims eat this, it is essential 'blessed' and each animal is killed individually by an actual PERSON rather than a machine) - you can get beef/chicken like this (no pork though heh heh). I'm eating seafood as well, since it is 'harvested' instead of butchered. I've been eating mostly tofu, vegetables, fruit, beans, and rice for that past 3 weeks, and I think I feel better than before! I always ate that stuff anyway, but I've just adjusted the proportions to keep the protein/carb/fat balance in tact. My mind works in strange ways... after seeing that video I just couldn't bring myself to say 'oh well' and keep eating the same stuff. I do miss bacon though... aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh bacon /drool... but I just think of the poor little piggies and I don't mind so much
